Comprised of musicians aged high school through retirement, the Hastings City Band performs five pops-style concerts each with a fun and crowd pleasing theme. Their annual "Tribute to America" concert has become one of Hastings Live's biggest events. Kevin S. Beck Andrew R. He has been performing mime for nearly 40 years. Based in West Michigan, Rob performs throughout the state and around the USA. Hastings Live Summer Series 5 Playing at the Plaza Thursdays ● Spray Plaza ● 11:00 am June 20 Cooperfly Puppets Kevin loves to perform, write, draw, sing, create, and wonder about possibilities. He is an award-winning artist, performer, and children’s author who loves to collaborate with other artists. Each year, he visits schools, libraries, festivals, and conferences to inspire active imaginations through poetry, puppetry, music, and movement. June 27 Thornapple Players This year the Thornapple Players return to Hastings Live at the Spray Plaza! Each year, Thornapple Players hosts a two- week theater camp for local youth. Today the campers will be performing excerpts from their summer performance and offering theater games for all to enjoy. July 11 John Ball Zoo Let the zoo come to you! Learn about wildlife in a hands-on learning experience with zoo education staff. The animals present will depend on their behavior and the weather that day. If the temperature is 90 degrees or above, this event will be held at our rain location at the Barry Community Enrichment Center. Hastings Live Summer Series 6 Playing at the Plaza Thursdays ● Spray Plaza ● 11:00 am July 18 Stormy the Magician A local favorite, Stormy has been creating smiles and laughter for children and adults of all ages for over 32 years! Stormy’s magic is created by weaving stories, laughter, and tricks into a show that the audience will remember for a lifetime! July 25 Drumming with Dede From humble beginnings, Dede has paved her way on her own musical journey. After beginning percussion studies in 5th grade, Dede started her own percussion business-- Rhythmic Adventures: Drum Circle Facilitation--while still in high school. Dede has been teaching, facilitating, and performing music for over 20 years. Hastings Live Summer Series 7 Playing at the Plaza Thursdays ● Spray Plaza ● 11:00 am August 8 Hands and Feet Music Hands and Feet Family Music began offering classes in Barry County August of 2016. Classes are mixed age music and movement classes for 0-5 year olds, but older siblings are always welcome. Hands and Feet is musical fun in which the whole family can participate! August 11 Kalamazoo Exotic Animals and Reptiles Come check out the exciting and unusual animals that will be presented! Animals present depend on temperatures the day of the event. He performs at a wide range of venues, including senior centers, festivals, private parties, American Legions and has even been spotted singing in Las Vegas. Hastings Live Summer Series 9 Fridays at the Fountain Fridays ● Courthouse lawn ● 12:00 pm June 21 Hastings Heartbeats Hastings Heartbeats plays zydeco music, a genre born in southwest Louisiana of blues, R&B, and indigenous Creole music, as well as the music of the native people of Louisiana. It usually features fiddle, accordion, vest frottoir (a wearable washboard); drums; guitar; and bass. Band members include Angie Seeber, Judy Van Dien, Dale Svihl, Doug Acker, and Terry Van Dien. J une 28 Daves at 7 Daves at 7 can be described as Americana, combining elements of folk, rock, country, and jazz. Group members represent diverse musical backgrounds, together creating original, foot-tapping tunes. Founding members Dave DeVos and Amy Young are joined by Paul Ouwinga, Fritz VonValtier, and Leah Postema. July 5 Kilkenny Corkers Kilkenny Corkers plays a variety of traditional Irish, modern Irish, folk, and Americana on instruments including guitar, viola, and cajon. Vocally, the group soars in a sisterly harmonic blend. Members Paula Allerding, Colleen Acker, and Maggie Murphy named their group after the counties in Ireland where their relatives once lived. Hastings Live Summer Series 10 Fridays at the Fountain Fridays ● Courthouse lawn ● 12:00 pm July 12 Jessie Wolthuis Michigan native Jessie Wolthuis has always had a passion for music, growing up playing guitar and inspired by rock and roll greats like Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Jessie continues to aim toward her dreams of becoming a successful musician, performing her authentic style with each song ringing with the tones of gypsy rock and pure soul! J uly 19 Chuck Whiting Originally from Austin, Texas, Chuck Whiting Jr. brings a unique appreciation for western swing that one doesn't typically find in the Michigan music scene. A stand-up comedian and street-performer, Chuck has earned a reputation for putting on high-energy shows with plenty of humor and audience participation. July 26 Community Music School The Hastings Community Music School, a program of the Thornapple Arts Council, provides musical listening, learning, and performance opportunities to people of all ages and skill levels. HCMS serves students students in Hastings and the surrounding area. Hastings Live Summer Series 11 Fridays at the Fountain Fridays ● Courthouse lawn ● 12:00 pm August 2 Jonah Evans Preferring the darker, deeper sound of the viola, Jonah Evans left behind her first instrument, violin, by age eight.
