THE Patchwork LEBANON QUILTERS GUILD Press NEWSLETTER Volume 33, Issue 3 March, 2017 Message from your President: March is on its way and Spring can't be far behind.... let's shake off the chill of Winter and smile! Do you speak "quilter?" Just last week I was talking to my husband about a UFO that I had found in the back of my fabric closet. He smiled and asked if we were being invaded. I gave him a curious look but then realized that to him UFO's meant spaceships and little green men - not an unfinished object. It seems there are different languages for different hobbies. My husband, for example is a car guy. I have no desire to know what a double overhead cam on a ford B block is but I know it makes him smile After doing a bit of research I found some acronyms that will help quilt- ers when we communicate about our craft. THIS MONTH: We all know that a WIP is (work in progress) but there are many PHD'S (projects half done) and PIGS (projects in grocery sacks) lurking in our Dalen Keys: quilting areas. Would you believe I found a WOMBAT (waste of money, Quilting, Creativity batting and time) high up on a shelf? WOMBATS can be very difficult to and Children's Books manage, so be careful. Looking deeper in my fabric storage turned up sev- eral NESTY'S (not even started yet.) I think NESTY'S reproduce at an alarming rate and can lead to having STABLE (stash accumulation beyond March Checklist life expectancy.) Personally, I believe many of us have reached this point. It really doesn't matter since all of us travel this life with bag- 1. Name tag gage. Ours is just filled with fabric. 2. Charms for exchange 3. Now we turn turn our enthusiasm to the children's quilts for Domestic Violence Intervention (DVI). Fabrics will be available at March ,April and May meetings for this purpose. There will be the an- nual sewing day for DVI in April. This will be held in our meeting room at Philhaven hosted by Pauline Editor’s Note: In addition to the children’s quilts, many moms have begun using the quilts as well. If you have extra fabric and would like to make an adult lap quilt for the mom’s, DVI would thank you for that as well. Pillowcases are always collected when you have them. Answers on page 4 A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER By, Gina L. Groff The Guild's February Auction/Meeting proved to be a very successful evening. As the paddles were raised and the bids were won, the end result was a whopping gross sales of $2,458. With the few expenses deducted, the Guild’s profit was $2,080.77 . Thanks to all of the generous members who participated in the bidding, a big thank you to Rosemary Stieg who orchestrated the event, the members who worked behind the scenes and during the auction and finally the auctioneers; it proved to be a fun evening for everyone. As noted in a previous message, Quicken was downloaded into the Guild's computer. I have input all of the previous information, so now the check register as well as all records will be recorded in the computer. I met with the CPA at Ellis Lee Hostetter & Company and all filings to IRS have been completed. There was a previous question to the Member-at-Large, Pauline Charles regarding the audit of the books of the Guild from an outside source. I have questioned the CPA regarding this question and he stated that The IRS does not require auditing financial statements from Non-Profits with assets of under $50,000. If the guild has a treasurer for a number of years and the books are turned over to another treasurer, at that time it would be wise to have an outside audit done. The Guild donated $250.00 to the Cedar Crest High School Aevidum Club for their assistance in setting up the room for our monthly meetings. We are thankful for their assistance. Page 4 Patchwork Press Getting Thisto Know Month: ’ s Program by Sue Kemmerer Erin Go Braugh! Thinking green and waiting for spring flowers! Our speakers for March are Dalen and Mitzie Keys. Their program is called “Quilting, Creativity and Children’s Books”. Dalen and Mitzie will share their experiences that all began with a simple, little children’s picture book. They never thought a little book would allow them to travel around the USA lecturing to guilds and schools; designing patterns and fabrics. They will share ex- amples of stories in quilts and the profound impact this has on everyone. There will also be a mini truck show. Dalen and Mitzie Keys Dalen Keys is an employee of DuPont. He has a PhD in chemistry and is currently running a small business with the company.
