ChorzówChorzów General information ● area: 33.24 km2 ● population: 111,536 ● density: 3,400/km2 ● voivodeship: Silesian History ● The history of the city dates back to the 13th century, when Order of the Holy Sepulchre came to Poland and set a village (Chorzów). ● The origin of the town's name cannot be ultimately explained, even though there are various hypotheses. ● The discovery of coal beds was an important breakthrough. ● At the beginning of the 19th century, when Chorzow belonged to Prussia, new settlement was established on the west of the village, named after mine Königshütte. History ● In 1868 Königshütte received Town privileges. 30 years later it became the first Upper Silesian independent urban district. ● In the early 20th century, the city had the highest population density in the Upper Silesia. ● After World War I and period of Silesian Uprisings, in 1922 today's Chorzów was incorporated to Poland. ● In 1934 the village was united with Königshütte. The town was given the name of the historical Chorzów. ● The rest is history.
