Ro,,, 4n1l~~flERK fOR PLACEM¡N;,O~0~;; \ #73 \ ---OeT 2 3 Z007 Whereas, Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier (born July 14,1932 in Brooklyn, New York) is an All-Pro football player, actor and Chrstian minister; and Whereas, Rosey Grier, one of twelve children, was named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was governor of New York at the time and was elected president later that year, and Whereas, after attending Pennsylvana State University and playing in the defensive line of the football team there, Grer began his professional football career in 1955, where he wore number 76 and was one of the National Football League defensive linemen with the_New York Giants from 1955 to 1962 where he was named an All-Pro defensive tackle in 1957, and Whereas, Grer then moved to the Los Angeles Rams and played there from 1963 to 1966 and was part of the "Fearsome Foursome", along with Deacon Jones, Merlin Olson, and Lamar Lundy often considered one of the best defensive lines in football history, and Whereas, Rosey has been the confidante of ever President of the United States since John F. Kennedy and courageously tackled the assassin of Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968; and Whereas, Rosey Grer worked in Tom Bradley's administration and developed many of the City's programs that focus on at-risk and underserved youth in Los Angeles today and thereby it is fitting that he is this year's recipient of World Impact's Tom Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award, Now therefore, be it resolved that by adoption ofthis resolution the Mayor along with the City Attorney, Controller and the Los Angeles City Council do hereby declare October 20, 2007 as Rosey Grer Day in the city of Los Angeles in recognition of his positive impact on the lives of the citizens of Los Angeles.
