Barchi Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey 83 Somerset Street New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Dear President Barchi, On behalf of the members of the Rutgers Emergency Preparedness Task Force, I am pleased to present this report. The task force was created in response to directions received from you to investigate and report on the devastating impacts Hurricane Sandy had on the State of New Jersey and, more specifically, the Rutgers community. The Emergency Preparedness Task Force was charged with documenting the lessons learned as a result of Hurricane Sandy and comprehensively evaluating: the needs of the Rutgers community during emergencies; what services are essential for the continuity of operations on our campuses; the adequacy of the procedures we have in place for Emergency Management; methods to improve communication of life safety information; and how we can better prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and other potential disruptions of services. I look forward to discussing the task force report with you as Rutgers continues to work collaboratively to implement the recommendations that will further improve the emergency preparedness of Rutgers.
