2019 District Survey Report MORADABAD PREFACE On January 15th 2016, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India issued a notification and in which Para 7(iii) (a) and Annexure X purpose and structure of District Survey Report has been discussed. District Survey report (DSR) will be prepared in every district for each minor mineral. Now the Moradabad District Mineral Survey report has updated as per Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Government of India Notification No. SO 3611 (E) dated 25.7.2018. The District Survey Report will guide systematic and scientific utilization of natural resources, so that present and future generation may be benefitted at large. The purpose of District Survey report (DSR) “Identification of areas of aggradations or deposition where mining can be allowed; and identification of areas of erosion and proximity to infrastructural structures and installations where mining should be prohibited and calculation of annual rate of replenishment and allowing time for replenishment after mining in that areas of rivers, stream and other sand sources. This report will be a model and guiding document which is a compendium of available mineral resources, geographical set up, environmental and ecological set up of the district and is based on data of various departments, published reports, and websites. The data may vary due to flood, heavy rains and other natural calamities. Therefore, it is recommended that the sub-divisional level Committee may take into consideration all its relevant aspects/data while scrutinizing and recommending the application for Environmental Clearance to the concerned Authority. Ordinary sand other than sand used for prescribed purposes and some other minerals has been specified as minor mineral in Sec 3(E) of The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. The Central Government in addition to some other minor minerals have also declared the ordinary earth (used for filling or levelling purposes in construction or embankments, roads, railways and buildings) and brick earth as the minor minerals. District Survey Report (DSR) is required to identify the areas of aggradations or depositions where mining can be allowed and identification of areas of erosion and proximity to infrastructural structures and installations where mining should be prohibited and calculation of annual rate of replenishment and allowing time for replenishment after mining in that area. The mineral potential is calculated based on field investigation and geology of the catchment area of the river or streams. Also as per the site conditions and locations, depth of minable mineral is defined. The area for removal of the mineral in a river or stream is decided depending on geo- morphology & other factors, it can be 50% to 60% of the area of a particular river or stream. Other constituents like clay and silt are excluded as waste while calculating the mineral potential of particular river or stream. The District Survey Report (DSR) shall form the basis for application for environmental clearance, preparation of reports and appraisal of projects. The Report shall be updated once every five years. 1 INTRODUCTION Moradabad is a city in Uttar Pradesh state of India. It was established in 1600 by Murad, the son of the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan; and named after him as Moradabad. It is the administrative headquarters of Moradabad District. Moradabad is situated at a distance of 167 km (104 miles) from the national capital, New Delhi, at the bank of River Ram Ganga (a tributary to the great Ganges). The city is famous for its huge export of brass handicrafts to North America and Europe, and is also thus called "Brass City" or Peetal Nagri (in the local language).It has close to four million citizens of various ethnicities and religions Moradabad is renowned for brass work and has carved a niche for itself in the handicraft industry throughout the world. The modern, attractive, and artistic brass ware, jewellery and trophies made by skilled artisans are the main crafts. The attractive brass wares are exported to countries like USA, Britain, Canada, Germany and Middle East Asia. Recently other products like Iron Sheet Metal wares, Aluminum Artworks and Glassware's have also been included as per need of the foreign Buyers. Mentha is also exported in several crores from Moradabad. These products are very popular in foreign market and are being exported in thousand of crores every year. Due to increase of exports and popularity in foreign especially in Europe, America, Italy and other countries, a large No. of exporters are establishing their units and started their export. Out of 2 the seven industrial corridors declared by the State Govt. in Industrial Policy 1999-2002, Moradabad is one of them. BRIEF DETAILS OF THE DISTRICT Physical Features and Geographical Area The district of Moradabad lies east of the Ganges and west of the native state of Rampur. It lies within the great Gangetic plain and is demarcated into three subdivisions by the rivers Ramganga and Sot. The eastern tract consists of a sub-montane country, with an elevation slightly greater than the plain below, and is traversed by numerous streams descending from the Himalayas. The central portion consists of a level central plain descending at each end into the valleys of the Ramganga and Sot. The western section has a gentle slope towards the Ganges, with a rapid dip into the lowlands a few miles from the bank of the great river. Population According to the 2011 census Moradabad district has a population of 887,871, roughly equal to the nation of Singapore or the US state of Alabama. This gives it a ranking of 26th in India (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 1,284 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,330/sq mi). Its population growth rate over the decade 2001- 2011 was 25.25%. In 2011 a new district named Sambhal district is formed with two sub districts of Moradabad district. The rest of Moradabad district have a population of 3126507. The Muslim population 3 in rest of Moradabad district is 1588297. Moradabad has a sex ratio of 903 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 58.67%. Transport Moradabad is well connected by roads with cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Noida, Haridwar and Dehradun etc. Moradabad Railway Station is one of the Major Railway Stations of Indian Railways; it comes under top hundred railway stations of India. It lies on Lucknow-Moradabad line, Delhi-Moradabad line and Moradabad- Ambala line. More than 200 trains pass through and stop at Moradabad Railway Station. It is direct connected by trains with major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur Agra, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, Jodhpur Haridwar, Dehradun, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Varansi, Ahemedabad, Patna etc. Moradabad Airport is in under construction, the nearest working domestic Airport is Pantnagar Airport which is 86 km from Moradabad and Nearest International Airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is 178 km from Moradabad. Administrative Set-up There are 4 Tehsils in Moradabad: 1. Kanth 2. Thakurdwara 3. Moradabad Sadar 4. Bilari 4 Further these Tehsils are divided in 8 Blocks in Moradabad District: a) Billari, b) Kundarki, c) Moradabad, d) Moonda Pandey, e) Bhagatpur Tanda, f) Chhajlait, g) Dilari, h) Thakurdwara, 5 Physiography Moradabad is situated on the banks of the Ramganga river, that originates from the Doodhatoli ranges and is a part of the Namik Glacier, originating from the high altitude zone of 800mts. to 900mts. The Ramganga flows to the south west from the Kumaun Himalaya. It is a tributary of the Ganga. It flows by the Corbett National Park near Ramnagar of Nainital district, from where it descends upon the Gangetic plain. The Ramganga Dam has been built on the Ramganga River at Kalagarh for irrigation and electricity 6 generation. Moradabad has a history of flash floods occurring due to the over-flooding of Ramganga River. REGIONAL GEOLOGY Moradabad district is in the State of Uttar Pradesh which is characterised by rock formations ranging in age from the Archean (the Bundelkhand Graniticgneisses) to the Recent (the Ganga alluvium). The Ganga plain which dominates the landscape and nearly covers three fourth of the geographical area of the State, lies between the rocky Himalayan belt in the north and the southern hilly tract comprised of mainly Pre-Cambrian rocks. Flexing of the Indian lithosphere in response to the compressive forces due to collision, and thrust fold loading produced the Ganga Plain foreland basin. It is filled with recent alluvial sediments which are at places more than 1,000 m. thick and an amalgam of sand, silt, clay in varying proportions. The southern hilly tract is roughly parallel to the Ganga-Yamuna lineament. The tract is underlain by granitic complex in Bundelkhand region and in Sonbhadra. It is overlain by rocks Mahakoshal (Bijawar) and Vindhyan Supergroup. The younger rock comprise of coal bearing Gondwana in south Sonbhadra and basaltic rocks in southern part of Lalitpur. The granitic complex is considered to be potential for the search of metallic minerals like copper, lead, zinc, molybdenum, gold, nickel, Uranium and Platinum group of elements. The overlying sediments of Mahakoshal (Bijawar) and associated Iron Formation show a potential for the search of copper, uranium, and gold in Lalitpur and andalusite, 7 sillimanite, gold, calcite, marble and clay in sonbhadra. The lower Vindhyan sediments of Sonbhadra contain deposits of cement grade limestone, flux grade dolomits, building stone and are also potential for the search of placer gold and other metals, while the Upper Vindhyan i.e. sandstones are suitable for making decorative slab/tiles or ballast. Deposits of silica sands and bauxite are available in Allahabad and chitrakoot districts while coal deposits occur in the Gondwana rocks in south-western corner of Sonbhadra.
