The study of harmonic analysis in superspace led to the Howe dual pair (O(m) × Sp(2n);sl2). This Howe dual pair is incomplete, which has several implications. These problems can be solved by introducing the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup OSp(mj2n). We introduce Lie supergroups in the supermanifold setting and show that everything is captured in the Harish-Chandra pair. We show the uniqueness of the supersphere integration as an orthosymplectically invariant linear functional. Finally we study the osp(mj2n)-representations of supersymmetric tensors for the natural module for osp(mj2n). The 2n anti- commuting variables x`i generate the complex Grassmann algebra L2n. Definition 1. A supermanifold of dimension mj2n is a ringed space M = (M0;OM ), with M0 the underlying manifold of dimension m and OM the structure sheaf which is a sheaf of super-algebras with unity on M0. The sheaf OM satisfies the local triviality condition: there exists an open cover fUigi2I of M0 and isomorphisms of sheaves of super algebras T : Ui ! ¥ ⊗ L . i OM CUi 2n The sections of the structure sheaf are referred to as superfunctions on M . This is closely related to the Fischer decomposition (1). The blocks j R Hk are irreducible 2 j 2 j sl2 representations with weight vectors R Hk. The weight vectors R Hk are O(m) × Sp(2n)-representations. In 2 j order to have a complete Howe dual pair, the blocks R Hk should be the irreducible parts of the representation (P;O(m) × Sp(2n)). However in superspace these blocks are not irreducible, see [4]. Another shortcoming of the Howe dual pair is that all functions of the form f (r2;q 2) are invariant under O(m) × Sp(2n). To have a complete Howe dual pair, only the polynomals R2 j should be one dimensional subrepresentations of P. Finally we introduce integration over the supersphere for polynomials, see [4], Theorem 1. When m 6= 0, the only (up to a multiplicative constant) linear functional T : P ! Summarizing, the theory of harmonic analysis in superspace with the Howe dual pair (O(m) × Sp(2n);sl2) has the following problems, 2 j • P1: The weight vectors R Hk of sl2 are not irreducible O(m) × Sp(2n) representations. • P2: The polynomials R2 j are not the only polynomials invariant under O(m) × Sp(2n). • P3: The supersphere integration is not uniquely determined by the O(m) × Sp(2n)-invariance and the modulo R2 − 1 property. These problems will be solved by introducing the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup. Our approach to Lie supergroups corresponds to the one in [1]. The details of the definitions can be found there. A Lie supergroup is a supermanifold G = (G0;OG ) equipped with the additional structure of a supermanifold morphism m : G × G ! G satisfying the associativity property and an involutive superdiffeomorphism s : G ! G . There is a distinguished point eG in the underlying manifold G0, which satisfies the identity property. The action of a Lie supergroup G = (G0;OG ) on a supermanifold M = (M0;OM ) is given by a supermanifold morphism Y : (G0;OG ) × (M0;OM ) ! (M0;OM ); which satisfies the logical conditions. INVARIANT FUNCTIONS AND HARISH-CHANDRA PAIRS In [1] the Lie superalgebra of a Lie supergroup is defined. The Lie superalgebra g corresponding to G is given by the elements of DerOG (G0) which are right (or left) invariant. Here DerOG is the sheaf over G0 of superderivations of the structure sheaf OG . For our purposes it will be more convenient to use a different and stronger characterization compared to [1], it can be proven however that the resulting algebra is identical. Definition 2. Consider a the Lie supergroup G with multiplication m. The Lie superalgebra g corresponding to G is the algebra with multiplication given by the Lie superbracket and with elements given by ] ] ] fX 2 DerOG (G0)jm ◦ X = X × idG ◦ m g: In order to be able to use Harish-Chandra pairs we also define the action of the Lie algebra on the supermanifold. Definition 3. The action of an element X 2 g on an element f 2 OM (M0) is given by g : (g;OM (M0)) ! OM (M0), g(X; f ) = d ] ◦ X × id] ◦ y]( f ): eG M In the bosonic case this definition coincides with the one given by differentiating the action of the Lie group. This definition implies an algebra morphism and can be extended to the universal enveloping algebra. Theorem 2. The isomorphism of vector spaces g ! Der ( ) X ! (X;·) is a Lie superalgebra morphism. OM M0 : g Now a superfunction f 2 OM (M0) is G -invariant for the action of a Lie supergroup on the super manifold M if ] y ( f ) = 1G × f . This invariance can be characterized using the underlying Lie group and the Lie superalgebra. Theorem 3. Given a superfunction f 2 OM (M0) and the action of a Lie supergroup G with Lie superalgebra g on M , Y : G × M ! M . The superfunction f is G -invariant if and only if f is G0-invariant and g(X; f ) = 0 for all X 2 g. A Harisch-Chandra pair is a pair (G0;g), consisting of a Lie group G0 and a Lie superalgebra g = g0 ⊕ g1. The algebra g0 is the Lie algebra of G0 and the Lie superbracket, restricted to g0 × g exponentiates to G0 × g. There is an equivalency in the sense of categories between Harish-Chandra pairs and Lie supergroups. Theorem 3 implies that the characterization of invariant functions is equivalent in the supermanifold or the Harish-Chandra approach. m The Lie group O(m) is the group of isometries of R which stabilize the origin. In [5], the isometry supergroup of a Riemannian supermanifold is defined in terms of its Harish-Chandra pair. Applying the definition to our flat Riemannian superspace yields mj n Theorem 4. The supergroup of isometries of the Riemannian superspace R 2 which stabilize the origin is the Lie supergroup OSp(mj2n), which corresponds to the Harish-Chandra pair (O(m) × Sp(2n);osp(mj2n)); ¥ m the action of osp(mj2n) on C (R ) ⊗ L2n is given by [i][ j] Li j = Xi¶X j − (−1) Xj¶Xi (3) for 1 ≤ i ≤ j ≤ m + 2n and [i] = 0 if i ≤ m and [i] = 1 otherwise.
