February Patch of the Month World Thinking Day 2021 World Thinking Day On February 22, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across 150 countries celebrate World Thinking Day— that’s one big celebration! The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), along with Girl Scouts of the USA and the other WAGGGS member organizations, have celebrated World Thinking Day since 1926. That’s when delegates from around the globe met at Camp Edith Macy—now called Edith Macy Conference Center—in New York and agreed that February 22 would now be known as a special day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide. Celebrate being part of the diverse global sisterhood that is Girl Guides and Girl Scouts! Observed by 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide, World Thinking Day 2021 celebrates what it means to be a peacebuilder, an important component of our global Movement. The World Thinking Day award is an official award and can be worn on the front of the official uniform. Girls can earn this award at any time and can do so by completing activities in the World Thinking Day Activity Packet (found in the Resources section of this toolkit). This month’s Patch of the Month is all about earning your World Thinking Day award, which is an Official Award that is worn on the front of the Official Uniform sash or vest and placed where other earned badges are worn. Each year, on or around February 22, girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Google Girl Scout Global Action Award and earn it as you work on your Thinking Day Projects. We have opted to provide a fun patch instead of the official badge since we do not complete the requirements to earn the Badge. You can still order the official badge from the GS shop. Thinking Day 2021 will look different than anything we have ever done before, but we are hoping your troop will join us for this drive-thru event. We want to continue some of our timeless Thinking Day traditions, but in a safe social distant way. Girls will drive through and enjoy different countries and safely collect SWAPs or other small items from each Country. We are also hoping to be able to share some performances virtually and create a digital cookbook with recipes from each country. Ways to participate: * Represent a country and set up a table or car trunk (think Trunk or Treat) with items from your country. Plan to make SWAPs or other trinkets to give out to guests. (No food) Submit a recipe or collection of recipes from your country for the cookbook. If you choose, you can perform a skit, song, or dance that will be recorded to be shown virtually after the event. *Represent a country virtually.
