Is your land being used to its maximum potential? Why not plant trees alongside your existing enterprise while maintaining your current stocking levels? Forestry has always been a good option for land owners - over 13,000 received a forestry payment in 2015 and more than 600 established new forests during the same year. Reasons to plant trees: 100% of the cost of establishing the new forest is covered by grant aid. Annual premium of up to €249 per acre (€615 per hectare) payable for 15 years. Forestry is compatible with other agriculture schemes, including Basic Payment Scheme and GLAS. Forestry can help farmers to make better use of their land and diversify their income. Changes in taxation rules means that income from forestry clear-felling is tax free for active farmers and foresters. Forestry is good for the environment: helping to protect water quality; in climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration; and by replacing fossil fuels with a renewable source of energy. Agro forestry allows for grazing to take place alongside forestry and Forestry for Fibre can be harvested after just 10 – 15 years. Grants and premiums are available for both these schemes. For details of the forestry schemes available, please see www.agriculture.gov.ie/forestservice or contact your forestry advisor. v Serving all electricity customers FALLEN ELECTRICITY WIRES ARE LIVE AND DANGEROUS Never approach or touch. This high resolution imagery is compatible with OSi products and available in your choice of projection. OSi are exclusive resellers of DigitalGlobe™ imagery in Ireland. Orthophotography use in forestry is invaluable for planning and visually assessing crop health. With such stunning quality/resolution, this imagery can also be used to display forest roads, walks and trails. Colour infrared imagery exposes a wealth of information that is not detectable in standard colour imagery. How an object responds to Near Infrared (NIR) light can indicate crop health in forestry and agriculture. More intense red colours indicate greater chlorophyll levels (vigorous growth), while colder green/blue colours indicates poor growth, soil surfaces, water etc. For further information contact: [email protected] 087-1318253 [email protected] 087-9238172 [email protected] 086-3948374 www.osi.ie xii National Mapping Agency As they grow, so does your income ❏ Forest Establishment ❏ Investment ❏ Forest Management ❏ Land Procurement ❏ Roading & Thinning ❏ Forestry Insurance For a free consultation contact your local forester: Padraig Egan Limerick/Clare 061 376304 087 2587817 Michael Connelly Declan Lawless Cork Kerry 086 2583773 066 7123185 087 2572158 Joe Fitzgerald Michael Moran South East West 052 6138772 087 2555167 086 6018491 Alec Moony Mark Clery Midlands Limerick/North Cork 087 1334439 087 7388230 Kieran Allman Barry Roche Kerry Midlands 087 2528330 087 7376189 Martin Doherty Graham Wall Sligo/Leitrim Cavan/Monaghan 087 2324314 087 7913669 Enquiries to head office: Gate Lodge, West Cork Technology Park, Clonakilty, Co.Cork 1800 928 900 | [email protected] | www.swsforestry.ie xiii The European Forest Institute (EFI)... · is an international organization established by European states. · conducts research and provides policy advice on issues related to forests. · facilitates and stimulates forest-related networking. · promotes the dissemination of unbiased and policy-relevant information on forests and forestry. · advocates for forest research and for the use of scienti fically sound information as a basis for forest policies.
