Dear Parents and Students of Mr. Perreiah's 8Th Grade History Classes

Dear Parents and Students of Mr. Perreiah's 8th grade history classes, As you know, school will be closed through April 24. I do not have lessons prepared for such an extended absence. However, I think it is vital to keep some sort of structure during the extended closure. So, here is what we will do. For each week, please read between ten and twenty minutes a day about a historical subject. Our current subject through the month of March is Westward Movement. Parents, if you would like your son/daughter to write a short summary and turn it in to me during/after the extended closure I will take it and grant some sort of credit. Here is the list of subjects for the week of March 16 (OREGON COUNTRY/FUR TRADE): *Alexander Mackenzie *Meriwether Lewis *William Clark *Sacagawea *Jedediah Smith *William Becknell *James Beckwourth *Zebulon Pike *Manuel Lisa *John Jacob Astor *the rendezvous system *life on the Oregon Trail *the Oregon Treaty of 1846 Here are the subjects for the week of March 23 (TEXAS): *Stephen Austin *Sam Houston *Davy Crockett *Jim Bowie *James Bonham *William B. Travis *Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna *James Fannin *Juan Seguin *Lorenzo de Zavala *battle of Gonzalez *battle of the Alamo *battle of San Jacinto *the Old Three Hundred Again, my suggestion is to read ten or twenty minutes about each subject above. Students can pick and choose their own subjects. I know not everyone has access to on-line sources. True, this is not a perfect solution but something is better than nothing. Still, this is an attempt to maintain some sort of routine and structure during the extended closure. The reading list of topics for the week of March 30 is pending. Stay tuned. If you have questions please e-mail me at [email protected] I will check my e-mail at least once a day during the extended closure and do my best to assist you. Please stay safe and take care of yourselves! :) Sincerely, Mr. Perreiah Chase Middle School [email protected] .
