On his way to Ascoli, Emydgius converted many and performed a miracle where he made water gush out of a mountain after striking a cliff. Polymius, the local governor, attempted to convince Emygdius to worship Jupiter and Angaria. Polymius also offered him the hand of his daughter Polisia. Instead Emygdius bap- tized her as a Christian in the waters of the Tronto. Enraged, Polymius decapitated him on the spot now occupied by the Sant’Emidio Red Temple, as well as his followers Eupolus (Euplus) and Germanus, and Valentius (Valentinus). In 1703, a violent earthquake occurred in the Marche but did not affect the city of Ascoli Piceno. The city’s salvation was attributed to Emygdius. Following the earthquake, he has been invoked against earthquakes. August 13 is an Obligatory Memorial in the Diocese of Orange. SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION Thursday, August 15 Mass: 8:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m. Bring herbs or fruit to be blessed Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives You praise, for all life and all holiness come from You. In her glory she proclaims the greatness of the Lord and finds joy in God her savior. God has done marvels to her and she leads others to recognize God’s holiness. She is the lowly handmaid who deeply reverenced her God and has been raised to the heights. From her position of strength she will help the lowly and the poor find justice on earth, and she will challenge the rich and powerful to distrust wealth and power as a source of happiness.
