Bethel Trough the Bible 2020 Bible Reading Plan Whatis"BethelTrough the Bible”? Bethel Through the Bible is a church-wide Bible reading plan for 2020. We encourage everyone of all ages to read through this same chronological Bible reading plan. The plan comes from the F-260 reading plan at replicate.org. According to replicate.org, here is a description of the F-260 plan: “The F-260 is a two hundred and sixty day reading plan that highlights the foundational passages of Scripture that every disciple should know… The plan expects believers to read 1 or 2 chapters a day for 5 days each week, with an allowance for weekends off. The 2 off-days a week are built in so you may catch up on days where you’re unable to read in order to digest more of the Word. The F-260 encourages believers to read less and to keep a H.E.A.R. Journal.” At Bethel, we are using this plan to encourage everyone to work through the same plan together. Whether you read through the Bible every year or you struggle to find the book of Genesis, we can help one another understand more of God’s word. As we work through this plan together, we can encourage one another and ask questions to find out how God is challenging each one of us through His word. The Bible is a collection of 66 individual books to form one large narrative which reveals who God is and how He has worked. The chronological reading of the Bible enables to us to see that God has a direction for all of human history and for each one of us. After your week’s worth of reading (roughly 10 chapters), the sermon that Sunday will cover a passage from the previous week’s reading. We will not cover the entire contents of the reading, but we will drill down to a specific text to see how that passage relates to the larger themes of the Bible. What is a H.E.A.R. Journal? The H.E.A.R. Journal also comes from replicate.org. As you read the Bible, use the acronym H.E.A.R. to record what God shows you, your thoughts, & your responses to God’s word. The letters stand for Highlight, Explain, Apply, Respond. The goal of Bible reading is not to complete a checklist. The goal is to allow God’s word to bring transformation to your life. In order to experience this transformation, we ask God to reveal the meaning of His word so that we can apply it. HIGHLIGHT You highlight a verse by finding a verse that stands out to you from your reading. Copy this verse down in your journal. Include book, chapter, & verse as H well as why this verse stood out to you. EXPLAIN Ask questions about the verse/passage. Why was it written? To whom was it written? What is the context around the passage? What were the E original hearers supposed to do with this passage? APPLY The purpose of Bible study is applying what God shows you. What does this verse mean to Christians today? How can you apply this verse this week? Are there any sins you need to repent of? Any habits you need to stop or start? Any mindsets you need to change? Anyone you need A to ask forgiveness from? RESPOND The response is the next step of applying the text. Based on your application step, schedule a time to act. Maybe you need to write out a prayer to God asking for guidance through living out what you learned. Maybe you need to call someone or you need to look up other passages of scripture about R what you just learned. For more information on H.E.A.R.
