We recently bought a mixed box of covers he produced, at first glance we could not make head or tail of it, but after a couple of hours we managed to split it into three distinctive lots. 30TH JULY 1937 King George VI 1½d brown FDC FD146FA £10 Small Window FD146F £40 envelope, first day of the 1½d plus the The 1½d plus the Coronation stamp three earlier issued and the Edward definitives and a VIII, all 1½d values. pair of Coronation stamps. 29TH JULY 1938 Last day of sale for the King Edward VIII defi nitives 01303 TCS525A £25 278137 Single 2½d value plus the same George V and VI value. At this point supplies of stamps were running low and the German authorities asked Major Rybot to design a stamp in the style of the Display cover with 1d Jersey Guernsey Arms issue. Arms ‘Atrocious Adolf’. The Major agreed and in each corner FD200 £125 he added a letter ‘A’ with a plan to tell the Germans if questioned it was £25 per month just continuing the tradition of letters over 5 months in the corners started with the Penny Black. In a letter to King George VI after the war he told him the letters stood for Ad Avernum Adolphe Atrox, roughly translated as ‘To hell with you atrocious Adolf’. So maybe it was the occupying Germans who were the fools on Display card with ½d issue day. Jersey Arms ‘Bloody Bonito’. The Major did not stop there though, FD202 £40 if you look closely at the initials in the corners of the ½d issued on the 29th January 1942, you will notice the bottom letters were changed to ‘BB’ BUY BOTH FOR £140 Bloody Bonito (Mussolini). £70 per month over 2 months 1943 JERSEY VIEWS FULL SETS FD214G £300 FD214L £300 FD214T £350 Flexi-pay available on all items!
