Reporting Period: 22 to 29 January 2014 Donor: OFDA/USAID Submission Date: 29 January 2014 Incidents Update: During the reporting period, two new natural disaster incidents were reported. South Region Hilmand Province: As per the initial report obtained from ANDMA in Helmand, on 2 January 2014, 12 families were reportedly displaced from Ghor province, Pasaband district (Shenkot village) as a result of drought. The families are currently living in Helmand province, Lashkar Gah (Muahager Camp). A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, WFP, UNHCR, IRC and ANDMA carried out an assessment on 20 January 2014. The findings of the assessment indicated that the families are vulnerable and living under poor conditions. The main needs of the families were NFIs and food items. Hilmand, Lashkar Gah, IDP family receiving IOM NFIs and tarpaulins, 29 January 2014 , IOM IOM assisted all twelve families with the provision of family revitalization kit, winter module and tarpaulins on 29 January. Northeast Region: Kunduz Province: As per the initial information obtained from ANDMA on 21 January, seven families were affected as a result of river bank erosion in Arsalah village of Aliabad district. The incident also resulted in the destruction of three hectares of agricultural land. A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, NRC and ANDMA assessed the affected families on 22 January. The findings of the assessment indicated that the families have lost their household items and Kunduz, Aliabad district, A house damaged by river bank erosion, 22 the surrounding walls of the houses were also January 2014 , IOM damaged. Based on the findings of the assessment, NRC will provide cash for food and NFIs to all affected families. Central Highland Region: Bamyan Province (Update): As per the decision of the PDMC, a joint assessment team composed of IOM, ANDMA, Save the Children, Advantage Development Relief Agency (ADRA), Women Affairs Department, MoLSAMD, ARCS and Solidarities initiated an assessment of vulnerable families affected by harsh winter in November 2013, covering Bamyan Center, Yakawlang, Waras and Panjab districts. These families were the most vulnerable as they lack appropriate clothing and household items to protect them from extreme winter. The distribution in Bamyan center is completed while the distribution in Yakawlang, Waras and Panjaw is expected to finish by second week of February 2014.
