Amtrak NPCU “Cabbage” Amtrak Began to Rebuild Redundant F40PH Locomotives Into Non-Powered Control Units (Npcus) in the 1990S

Amtrak NPCU “Cabbage” Amtrak began to rebuild redundant F40PH locomotives into Non-Powered Control Units (NPCUs) in the 1990s. They allow “push- pull” service and eliminate the need to turn a train at terminals. They feature a loco- motive cab and baggage section, hence the nickname “cabbage.” They are still in service today all over the United States. The Rapido Amtrak NPCU is not just our F40 model with a few bells and whistles added. We have tooled up a completely new body based on a common Phase 1 NPCU design. It features operating ditch lights, accurate enlarged marker lights, supplementary air reservoirs, K5LA horn, and other accurate NPCU details. Order deadline September 26th, 2016. Delivery expected 2017. The Rapido Amtrak NPCU is available in five different paint schemes: Amtrak Phase III, Amtrak Phase IV, Amtrak Phase IV Downeaster, Amtrak Phase V (Swoosh!) and Amtrak California. Several road number options are available for each scheme. There is also an undecorated model. DCC/Sound: US $299.95 DC/Silent: US $199.95 Order your Amtrak “Cabbage” today! At the same time the locomotives were repainted in VIA’s green, grey and yellow Renaissance scheme first seen on the P42DC locomotives in 2001. Our model features an all-new body with accurate HEP generator details, including radiator fans, rads and cabling visible through the grilles. It is available in ten different road numbers and undecorated. We’re also offereing a special limited run of locomotive #6403, which became famous after appearing on the new polymer Canadian $10 banknote in 2013.
