Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear Mattick, Lindsay Illustrated by Sophie Blackall New York, Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 2015 9780316324908 Winner of the Caldecott Medal, Finding Winnie is a heartfelt true story of kindness and love that spans countries and generations. Depicting the life and events that of Winnipeg the bear, Finding Winnie highlights the people and stories behind the origins of the beloved Winnie-the-Pooh. The story had even more heartfelt moments, for it was written by the great-granddaughter of Harry Colebourn, Winnie’s original owner. The author uniquely plays off of this, telling the story with layers of narration to her own son, until Winnie’s story becomes Winnie-the-Pooh’s story. Accompanied by realistic and era appropriate illustrations and actual photographs from the lives of those who surrounded Winnie, Finding Winnie is truly a captivating and engaging story. Highly recommended for older children and all Winnie-the-Pooh lovers, this book does a remarkable job creating a story out of the historical. Jess Elder, Centennial Library Intern. .
