FACULTY OF ARTS & HUMANITIES Department of Archaeology: The Students of the Department were given field training in the subject of Field work, to collect surface collection, documentation, preparation of their record and also the classification in the district of Larkana and also at Depalpur. Organized a Fund Raising Fun fair and Bake Sales for Flood victims and affectees at the Department of English Language and Literature, University of the Punjab, Lahore, September to November 2010 (raised 50,000 rupees) Play was performed as a tribute to Prof. Sirajuddin “Counting the Ways” Movie Club: agenda movie after every two weeks: . Long study tour was arranged by the Department of History, and visited Murree, Khanspur, Ayubia, Nathia Gali, Cheeka Gali on 22-27 July 2010. One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.A History students and visted Kila Katas, Kila Rutas, and Mangla Dam on 28.2.2010. One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.A Pakistan Studies students and visted Nankana Sahib and Hiran Minar, Sheikhupura. One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.Phil students and visted Wahgha Border, Lahore29.5..2010. Sports exhibition was arranged by the Department of History, University of the Punjab, on 25-26 March 2010. Department of Philosophy: A Walk was organized by the Department of Philosophy to celebrate World Philosophy Day on September 29, 2010. Prof. Dr. Sajid Ali, Dr. Shabbir Ahsen: Assistant Professor Department of Social Sciences, LUMS, Mr. Shahid Gul, and Mr. Saad Malook walked with the students of the department who were holding play cards and banners. One play card was showing, Socrates‟ adage, „The unexamined life is not worth living‟. The walk was held from the Department of Philosophy to University Law College and then back to the Department. Mr. Toheed Ahmad secured 1st position (Vocal) at Baqai Medical University Karachi, 10th August, 2010. Saira Tahir performed with American musicians delegation, In Fusion Concert at Lahore and Islamabad in July 2010. The “NATAK” College of Art & Design has present a Drama “Dil Hai Pakistan” in the 3rd All Pakistan Amateur Theatre Festival 2010 on 20th May, 2010 at Alhamra Art Centre on the Mall and received a lot of appreciation. 202 Annual Report 2009-2010 Student Activities/ Events The students of Music Department arranged a live musical performance for the event “Tribute to Sir Shahnawaz Zaidi‟‟ held at Alhamra Arts Council on 7th May, 2010. Mr. Toheed Ahmad secured 1st position (Vocal) at Agriculture University Islamabad, 10th April, 2010. The PUCAD student participated in Chand Bagh Music Festival in different categories. Mr. Ahmad Raza Yousaf Secured 3rd position (instrumental). Mr. Toheed Ahmad also Secured 1st position (Vocal) and also won the team trophy on 13th March, 2010. Our College participated in the 3rd All Pakistan Mediafest ‟10 GIKI Media Club, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi. Mr. Sikanader Hayat Khan, Mr. Husnain Mehmood, Mr. Arslan Pirzada, Mr. Shahbukht Khan won the photography competition in 27-28 February, 2010. The College participated in the „Fast University‟, Islamabad‟s Competition named “Tamasha”. Mr. Miraj Muhammad won the first position in Conceptional Art (Painting) in 12-16 February, 2010. Our students Mr. Mohsin Khawar student of B.Arch has been selected in the Portrait Category by the Sarhad Tourism Department and was displayed his work in Lok Virsa Museum, Islamabad on 29th Jan, 30th Jan & 1st Feb and awarded Rs. 5,000/-. College of Art & Design designed & performed background music of Drama „‟ Awam Gher‟‟ at Rafi peer youth performing art festival 15th January, 2010. Saira Tahir achieved best singing Award at Govt College for Women JHELUM 14th January, 2010. Mr. Toheed Ans, MA Music (1st Year) has won 1st Prize in All Punjab Competition of Music (Masood Kadar Posh Award) College of Art & Design designed & performed background music of mime „‟Nirtaki‟‟ in Governor House Lahore. The PUCAD students participated in various categories at LUMS Olympiad 09. The students bagged second position in Fashion Design 5th place in Photography and clinched top 16 positions out of 70 in Short Movie competitions and also qualified for semi-finals in Singing and Gaming contests. In Media Festival 2009 held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI). The students clinched first positions in Photography and Short Movie categories. Mr. Omar Daraz Muhammad Yousaf has won an International Award “IBDA‟A Awards 2009” held in Dubai. The PUCAD students have won first and second position in a talent competition and painting exhibition organized by „The Ummeed Foundation Trust' at the Alhamra Art Gallery in December 2009. Muhammad Tahir Iqbal Secured 3rd position (Vocal) in Chand Bagh Music Festival, 2009. College of Art & Design represented Punjab University in Youth Performing Art Festival 2009, organized by Rafi Peer Theatre. Saira Tahir represented Punjab University in South Asian University Performing Art Festival (SAUFEST) In Nepal. 203 Annual Report 2009-2010 Student Activities/ Events Saira Tahir achieved best singing award from ATV. College of Art & Design participated in Inter University Performing Art Festival at Bahaudin Zakria University (BZU) Multan in 2007 and clean sweep with first three position. Prof. Dr. Rahat Naveed Masud has briefed to the media delegation of Poland Ms. Ewa Helena Hancock, Mr. Wojciech Lorenz, Ms. Zofia Kunert, Mr. Henryk Suchar on 22th May, 2010. Participated in Youth Performing Art Festival at Rafi Peer Theatre, Lahore. Calendar & Diary Exhibition on the 16th November, 2009 at College of Art & Design. VC Prof Dr Mujhaid Kamran has inaugurated photographic exhibition of Fine Arts students on Thursday, February 18, 2010. 19 MA final year students of PUCAD displayed their final theses „Incognito – unwrap yourself' here in the Alhamra Art Gallery in December 5, 2009. Final Thesis display of MFA for the Session 2009-10 from 1st to 4th June 2010. Study tour of BFA Part-III Fine Arts students to Abbottabad in July 2010. Study tour of BFA Part-IV & MA Music students to Naran in July, 2010. Study tour of BFA Textile Design students to Naran in July, 2010. Study tour of MFA students to Khanaspur in June, 2010. FACULTY OF BEHAVIOURAL& SOCIAL SCIENCES Department of Political Science: Annual sports week arranged in March every year. Students participated in interdepartmental competitions: Debates, Naat competition, Mushaira, arranged by faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Annual dinner/farewell party is a traditional event of Political Science Department. Department of Social Work: A team of students participated in University debates and speeches competitions at Tariq Aziz Show-PTV. In this year following events/activities of students were organized: 4 Toursm, 2 Annual Dinners, 2 Welcome Parties and 2 Fair Well Institute of Communication Studies: Institute of Communication organized its Sports Gala 2010 in the vicinity of the Institute including various sports activities like Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Tug of War, Sack Race, Hurdle Race and Three Leg Race both for boys and girls. MS Morning session 2008-2010 organized a welcome party in the honor of their junior MS Morning session 2009-11. 204 Annual Report 2009-2010 Student Activities/ Events MS Replica session 2008-2010 organized a welcome party in the honor of their junior session MS Replica session 2009-11. MS Development Journalism session 2009-11 organized a farewell party in the honor of their seniors‟ session MS Development Journalism session 2008-10. Institute of Social & Cultural Studies Sports gala and cultural day was celebrated in April 2010. One day excursion tours for MSc Sociology (both regular and replica) and BS (Hons) students were arranged during the month of April 2010. Welcome parties were arranged for MSc Sociology Sem-I, BS (Hons) Sem-I, MPS Sem-I and MSc Criminology & Security Studies Sem-I classes during the month of October 2010. Department of Gender Studies: Women's Day Gala: The department, on 8th March, 2010 organized a Women Day Gala to highlight the creativity and talent of the women. The academia along with the public and private sector joined hands in making this event a success.
