In a great way to start the season at home against Pembroke in a T/20, we fell a few runs short of beginning with a win. We lost the toss and bowled, there were some good signs in both our fielding and bowling and there were as many areas to work on. Pembroke amassed 128, with 12 off the last 2 balls slightly denting what would have been a good effort with the ball. Our chase began well with the newer ball being the best time to score on a low slow pitch. We then slowed through the middle of our innings and faced a final over needing 12 runs. Unfortunately we couldn't get a couple of big hits away and fell a Daniel Giles pushed the ball for none to the few runs short. cover but still looked strong doing so. Individually, most of our bats got a reasonable hit leading into our first two dayer, with new recruit Daniel Giles looking solid and the perfect fit for our two day team. We continue to need work on our decision making when running between wickets. With the ball, it was great to have Damien Miller back bowling well with the new ball, Iggy Mareolas bowled well early and Carlo Manno showed a bit as a part timer. We put down a couple of catches and missed the boat a few times with our concentration and Miller chasing the ball down to save 4 runs. urgency in the field so we will continue to need to work on this. We now look forward to starting two day cricket against Flinders University. Brett Knowles And then chasing some of the sausages down after the game. Founded 1915 Walkervillecc.com.au T 20 Wrap Up B- Grade The season started with a 20/20 game against the neighboring Pembroke OS. After losing the toss and being sent into bat, the Cats started well with Lachlan ‘Hodgey’ Nance (20) and Ben ‘Bumpkin’ Duncan (16) opening the innings for season 2012/13. Craig ‘Pres’ Jervies (16) and Chris Black (20) kept the scoreboard ticking over during the first half of the allotted over’s. Ben “the Giraffe” Duncan in Action A final score of 8/128 was a score that was defendable if we played to the game plan. The fielding and the bowling of the team was of quality. Bowlers focusing on line and length & with the support of the fielders things worked well. Nigel Grapetin and ‘The Hyphen’ gave us a good start with consistent bowling on and outside off stump. Then ‘Bumpkin’ took the pink kookaburra and looked like a guy who had done it all before at Walkerville. The 2nd half of the over’s was not as rewarding as Restricting Pembroke to 8/101, allows all bowlers the batsmen & the guys who think they are needed to be pleased with their effort and now have to get bat on ball instead of trying to find the something to look forward to come season proper, boundaries. The little Sri Lankan import of especially if they are bowling in partnerships. Chamara Herath looked busy for his first hit in Fielding was brilliant with no dropped catches it Walkerville colors. changes the momentum of a game so quickly in your own favor.
