Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference 2016

The 4th Annual Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference took place September 18th-20st 2016 at Lenbach Palais Munich. Top international researchers and promising young scientists took advantage of the three-day conference for an intensive exchange of ideas concerning the latest scientific findings in the field of diabetes re- search. A total number of 272 attendees took part in this exclusive conference. Along with 126 German participants also 146 (54%) international guests from 22 countries participated in the conference. Most of them came from the United States of America, Denmark and Great Britain (see statistic below). Zachary Knight talked in his lecture about “The Neurobiology of Hunger” and Andrew Pospisilik about “The Role of Epigenetic Silencers in Metabolism – from Beta Cell Dedifferentiation to Stochastic and Inter- generational Obesity”. Round Table Sessions and Nature Reviews Endocrinology Abstract Prize: The Scientific Round Table Session provides a unique opportunity for selected, highly- qualified young researchers to network in an informal setting with the plenary speakers and top scientists in the field. Each young scientist has 15 minutes to informally present research data on an interactive screen to one established senior scientist, followed by five minutes of feedback and discussion. The Nature Reviews Endocrinology abstract prize for the best two round table presentations was awarded to: Vera Nies, University of Groningen: “ERK and AKT Dependent Regulation of Glucose Uptake by the novel Metabolic Regulator FGF1 in Adipocytes” Alexander Häusl, Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry Munich: “The Role of Hypo- thalamic FKBP51 in Energy Homeostasis”. Sponsoring partner The conference was again supported by numerous cooperation partner from science and industry: .
