(2) Yujir Yogay: - To add Yoga is the name of disconnection from the sad world and coincidence with God (3) Yujasayamne: - Restraining the mind Adding to the practice of yoga by restraining the mind is the union of the soul with the divine. Definitions of Yoga: - According to Maharishi Patanjali :- “Yogaschitvridhinirodh” (1/2) Yoga is the complete control of the mind fluctuations . Reflection of subjects through ego and mind is called fluctuations. Stopping those mind fluctuation is yoga. According to Maharishi Vyasa: - “Yoga Samadhi” The name of Samadhi is Yoga. That means samadhi is yoga. According to Yagyavaliyak Smriti: - Yoga is the match of soul with God. According to Shri Madbhagwat Geeta: - “samtavm yog uchhyate” Being neutral in the state of happiness - sorrow, gain- loss is yoga “yog karmshu kaushlam” Yoga is the name of skill in actions. The karmas which is performed in a detached sense is called karm yoga 1 INTRODUCTION TO YOG www.vedamrita.com According to Vivekananda:- Yoga is the study of ancient Arasha texts. According to Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya:- Yoga is the art of living life. Purpose of yoga The purpose of yoga is to develop our life overall. Holistic development means physical, mental, moral, spiritual and social development. Yoga gives us mental health, wellness and freedom from ill thoughts. Which makes our life high and divine. Under Ashtanga Yoga, along with our body purification, our character purification measures have been described. Yama, Niyam purifies our behavior and character and makes it sattvik. After that physical health can be achieved by Aasan Pranayama. The primary purpose of pratyahara is Sanyam in life. Mental health is attained by dharna,meditation and samadhi. Samadhi is an excellent state of meditation. By which self-realization can be done. The aim of samadhi is attainment of Moksha, which is the ultimate goal of man. Kriya Yoga: - (Tapa, Swadhyaya, Ishwar,Pranidhan) The purpose of Kriya Yoga described in the Patanjal Yoga Sutra is the attainment of Karmayoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gyan Yoga. A person becomes karmayogi by adopting Tapa and performing Karmas . Swadhyaya leads to the attainment of knowledge and Ishvarpranidhan leads to devotion. Importance of yoga Yoga is the oldest knowledge of this Aryavarta. This is a science provided by our sages, who is capable of uplift the knowledge of human being. It is possible to meet the soul with the divine through yoga. The practice of this yoga saadhna would lead to self-realization. Yoga has importance in many areas, which is described as follows: - (1) Physical importance: - Yoga practice has an important role in physical health. In Ashtanga Yoga, the third, fourth limb, aasana and pranayama provide physical health. Physical powers can be developed with yogasanas. Which makes the body strong. The endocrine system is affected by yoga and the glands are balanced. With pranayama, pure air enters our body and increases the vitality and by exhaling a large amount of foreign matter comes out, the blood is purified, the mind is concentrated. 2 INTRODUCTION TO YOG www.vedamrita.com “ Na tasya rogon na jra na mrityu Praptsya yogagnimay shariram “ The person who meditated his body in the fire of yoga, does not have any disease in the body of the person, neither does the symptoms of old age appear, nor does he die untimely. (2) Mental importance: - One can get mental health by yoga. In modern society, increasing mental illness is becoming terrible . Modern science is unable to solve them. The practice of yoga keeps control on the mind. Mental concentration can be attained by reducing the spasticity of the mind. Mental diseases arise from the mind. If the mind is healthy, the body is also healthy. The mind affects the body. Because what is in our mind only appears in the body. Toxic chemical production is produced in the blood due to the intense charge of anger,with which the power of man is destroyed, old age comes. Maharishi Patanjali has described the saadhna of such Chitta Prasadam under yoga practice. Which makes our mind clean. Life becomes stress free and mental concentration increases. (3)Spiritual importance: - The aim of human life is to attain moksha. The medium of moksha is our mind . Our mind is the cause of bondage and moksha. Therefore, Pure yoga can be achieved by making the mind God-oriented in yoga practice. Divya vision can be attained through yoga,from which the deepest secrets of creation can be revealed. (4) Family importance: - Family is a unit of society. Family is the foundation of a person’s development. The practice of a person to family has to show the talent of faith, devotion, sacrifice, self-control, penance etc. In Indian scriptures, it has been termed as Grihastha Yoga. (5) Social importance: - Healthy family has an important role in the upliftment of any society, which leads to the establishment of an ideal society. With yoga, a person gets rid of mental illness and gets high thoughts . There is divinity in the action and thoughts , so that he can serve the society with sincerity. (6) Economic importance: - When a person attains physical health, then he can make his economic level higher than his own. By becoming more diligent and karmayogi, man can earn more money by expanding his business. Yoga not only saves the expense of healing, but also makes you mentally strong. Yoga instructors are being appointed in the schools and colleges, who are taking money from yoga education. Training is being imparted at the Yoga Center for a fee which shows the economic health. 3 INTRODUCTION TO YOG www.vedamrita.com (7) Ethical importance: - Yoga purifies the mind. Which makes the intellect devoid of disorder. Attainment of wisdom it occurs. Knowledge of right and wrong begins. In that way, in developing moral qualities in humans, yoga has its important role. (8) Character importance: - Yoga science plays its important role in the creation of an ideal and high character.Only through the practice of devotional yoga one can transform personality. Mind is concentrated and life is long by yoga . It starts happening and the character becomes perfect.Yoga is indeed an art of living.That is scientific.Yoga affects physical, mental, Social, spiritual, family and moral aspects of our life. History of yoga Yoga is first indicated in our oldest literature, the Rigveda. The subject mentioned in the Vedas is Brahm knowledge itself and Only a Brahmgyani person can be an Ved Gyani. Thus, it can be said that yoga started from the Vedas only. For this reason, the uncommon of Vedas and sages have been called Mantra Darshta. Because the boundaries of the compound knowledge is beyond period and is related to the conscience of man. Origin of yoga Yoga is the oldest science, the original speaker of yoga has been credited to Hiranya Garbha. According to Yajnavaliyak Smriti: - “Hiranyagarbho Yogasya vacktaNanyah Puranicha” Hiranya Garbha is the beginning speaker of yoga, none other Therefore, Hiranya Garbha has been considered as a Chaumukhi brahm made out of golden eggs. Upanishads: In the Upanishads, yoga was explained in detail in Ish, Cane, Kath, Prashn, Manduk, Taittiriya, Aitareya, etc. Period of Darshan: - Six darshan are important in ancient Indian philosophies .
