Saturday 28 September, 8pm - The Hellenic Centre Americana! A timeless and powerful play set in Greece at the end of WW2 , inspired by true events, about a country at its most vulnerable and two women daring to succeed against all odds. In a country where everything - even life itself - is thrown to the winds, a mother, the ‘Americana’, and her daughter Katerina stand resolute and strong until opposing ideals pull them apart. The play, written and performed by Maria Vigar, is a must see human story hidden within Greece but resonates with people from all over the world who suffer in much the same way, reveals wounds and scars that to this day remain unhealed and exposes human frailty: a series of betrayals borne out of love, loss and thirst for freedom. A chaired Q&A session after the performance by Clara Arokiasamy OBE will give the audience an opportunity to voice their own thoughts on the themes covered in the story - an oppor- tunity for dialogue between friends, families, younger and older generations, Greek Diaspora and wider public. Director: John Ioannou; Music: Ian Schofield (composer), Rachel Coe (musician); Video Designer: Ben Glover; Language: English; Duration: 60 minutes with no interval.
