OLLI LUNCH AND LEARN “It All Begins with a Song” In the Round with Songwriters from The Bluebird Cafe Tuesday, January 26 - 12:30 P.M. The Temple – 5015 Harding Road With the success of the Television Series “Nashville,” tourists are filling The Bluebird Cafe every night, making it difficult for locals to attend shows. We have arranged a special "Lunch and Learn" program featuring the popular songwriting group of Thom Schuyler, Fred Knobloch, Tony Arata, and Jelly Roll Johnson. They will tell stories, sing a few songs, discuss the success of the “Nashville” television series, and do so with humor and clever commentary. Lunch and Learn panelists will include: o Thom Schuyler – Thom is an award-winning songwriter, including Lacy J. Dalton’s poignant ode to songwriters, “16th Avenue,” and the chart single “Love Will Turn You Around” with Kenny Rogers. Schuyler had his songs recorded by artists ranging from Paul Overstreet to The Judds and Levon Helm of The Band. o Fred Knobloch – As a songwriter, Knobloch has been a fixture on the Billboard charts with such hits as “If My Heart Had Wings” by Faith Hill, “Meanwhile” by George Strait and Lorrie Morgan’s “Back in Your Arms Again.” Additionally, Knobloch had cuts by Ray Charles, Trisha Yearwood and John Anderson. o Tony Arata – Tony is noted for his personal, poetic lyrics. After moving to Nashville in 1986, he began to get attention of people like Alan Reynolds and Garth Brooks. Garth has, to date, recorded seven of Tony’s songs and "The Dance" won song of the year at the Academy of Country Music. He has also had No. I records with "Here I Am" for Patty Loveless, "I'm Holding My Own" for Lee Roy Parnell, and" Dreaming With My Eyes Open for Clay Walker". Other artists who recorded his songs include Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Tricia Yearwood, Delbert McClinton, Don Williams, Reba McEntire, Susie Susie Boggess and Hal Ketchum. o Jelly Roll Johnson – Johnson won the Academy of Country Music’s award for Best Specialty Instrument in 2003 and has appeared on numerous albums since moving to Nashville in 1984.
