Since 1980: Since 2010, NFL teams who played New Orleans Play On: 17- 2 the week before – Dallas this week – are 1-16 SU and AIR FORCE & NAVY (89%) 0-17 ATS when priced “between the 3’s” [+3 to -3]. Carter Stadium • Fort Worth, TX Air Force over Rice by 6 In a game viewed as a contest between two evenly matched squads (at least in the eyes of Vegas), Air Force – like Navy – comes ‘Armed’ with our AWESOME ANGLE OF THE WEEK and that 89% proposition really ‘Matters’ to us. So does the fact that favorites in six-win team versus six-win team bowl games are 6-2 ATS, including a spotless 5-0 ATS off a SU and ATS loss. And making ‘matters’ worse for those who give a hoot about the Owls is the military’s 25-10 ATS log in bowl games since 1980. That’s certainly bad enough but when you factor in Falcons’ HC Troy Calhoun’s 5-0 ATS mark in games versus an opponent off a SU and ATS win of 10 or less points, you can begin to see why this trip to Fort Worth will be no treat for Rice. Now don’t get us wrong – the Owls are here for a reason. Thanks to a +78 net yards per game increase in the second half of the season, Rice fi nished on a 5-1 SU and ATS run – including a pair of SU underdog wins to close out the season – making them bowl eligible for the fi rst time in four years. And bowl dogs off back-to-back SU dog wins have done some damage PINSTRIPE BOWL against foes off a SU loss, posting a 5-2 ATS mark. As has Rice’s David Bailiff Yankee Stadium • Bronx, NY with rest: the six-year head coach is a competent 6-2 ATS when given extra time to prepare. However, Bailiff’s boys fall into the role of bowl virgin (no Syracuse over West Virginia by 3 bowls last three years) favorites who won four or less games the previous When we last saw the Mountaineers in postseason play, they were putting season and this particular chalk checks in with a squeaky 11-19 ATS mark. up a 70-spot in last year’s Orange Bowl. However, don’t expect it against We also know that the disciplined Force won’t hurt itself with penalties this Orange bowler as Big East squads are 6-1 SU and ATS in their last seven (fewest in the nation, 39 for 296 yards), so we’re more than happy to fl y bowl games against Big 12 opposition. Not to mention that the ‘Cuse, with them this morning in Texas.
