From 2001–2012 he served as professor of organ at the Eastman School of Music and Project Director of the Eastman-Rochester Organ Initiative in Rochester, NY, USA. Prior to that, from 1987–2005, he was professor of organ at the School of Music at Göteborg University, and from 1994–2009 was the Artistic Director of the Göteborg International Organ Academy (GIOA), founding the Göteborg Organ Art Center (GOArt). In 2007 he was appointed professor of organ at the Hochschule für Künste, Bremen, Germany where he continues to serve as the director of the Arp Schnitger Institute of Organ and Organ Building. He performs and teaches at major festivals and academies throughout the world. He has made many recordings including, most recently, the Photo Stephen Kennedy complete works of Dietrich Buxtehude and Georg Böhm on the Loft label. Stephen Farr is Director of Music at St Paul’s Church Knightsbridge, a post which he combines with a busy freelance playing career at home and abroad. He was organ scholar of Clare College Cambridge, graduating with a double first in Music and an MPhil in Musicology; he also holds a PhD from the University of Surrey. He has an established reputation as one of the leading recitalists of his generation, with a wide-ranging discography to his credit: he is currently recording the complete organ works of Kenneth Leighton for Resonus Classics. He has appeared in the UK in venues including the Royal Albert Hall (where he gave the premiere of Judith Bingham’s The Everlasting Crown in a solo recital in the BBC Proms 2011, and appeared with the BBC SO under Sakari Oramo as a concerto soloist in the 2015 season); Symphony Hall, Birmingham; Westminster Cathedral; King’s College, Cambridge; St Paul’s Celebrity Series; and Westminster Abbey. He also appears frequently on BBC Radio 3. Other ensemble work has included engagements with the Berlin Philharmonic, the CBSO, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonia; he made his debut in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 2005. He has also worked as continuo player and soloist with many other leading ensembles including Florilegium, the Bach Choir, the BBC Singers, Polyphony, The English Concert, St James Baroque, City of London Sinfonia, Academy of Ancient Music, Britten Sinfonia, the Dunedin Consort, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
