I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. UNIVERSAL PRAYER Response to each petition: Lord, hear our prayer. People respond to concluding prayer: Amen. 3 The Liturgy of the Eucharist PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR AND THE GIFTS SIT THERE’S A WIDENESS IN GOD’S MERCY SUO GÂN There’s a wideness in God’s mercy Like the wideness of the sea; There’s a kindness in his justice Which is more than liberty. There is plentiful redemption In the blood that has been shed; There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head. For the love of God is broader Than the measures of our mind, And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more simple We should take him at his word, And our lives would be thanksgiving For the goodness of our Lord. Troubled souls, why will you scatter Like a crowd of frightened sheep? Foolish hearts, why will you wander From a love so true and deep? There is welcome for the sinner And more graces for the good; There is mercy with the Savior, There is healing in his blood. Text: Frederick W. Faber in Oratory Hymns, 1854. Music: SUO GÂN 87 87 D; Traditional Welsh melody. Celebrant: Pray,… to God, the almighty Father.
