Seacoast United brought home the Super Y North American Championship in the U14 girls division back in 2009 under head coach David Burgess, who will return to the event this year with the U15 Girls. The majority of the ’09 championship squad will head back to Tampa as U16’s, this time with head coach Ian Burgess. The ’09 title was the 2nd Super Y Championship for the Club, its first coming in 2004 (U15 Girls). Tony Karibian’s U14 Girls are making their 2nd trip to Tampa after qualifying for the North American Finals as U13’s in 2010. Teams will participate in group play beginning on Friday, December 2nd, with championship matches taking place for each age group on Tuesday, December 6th. U15, U16, & U17 Boys Phantoms Compete at Massapequa NY Showcase December 3-4, 2011 The Seacoast U16 Boys Phantoms and Barcelona squads combined for a trip to the Massapequa College Showcase and returned with some hardware to show for their efforts. The group finished with two wins and a tie in the group stage which Seacoast United Soccer Club – 2011/12 News Archive was good enough for first place in the bracket and a spot in the finals against a very strong Brooklyn Italians team. Despite going down 1-0 with 7 minutes remaining in the match, Seacoast bounced back and Alex Kennedy slotted home the equalizer with only 2 minutes to go. Heading into overtime, Seacoast had the momentum and carried most of the play but with under a minute remaining in the second overtime, on the brink of penalty kicks, Brooklyn counter attacked and put an end to a great weekend from the Seacoast United squad. Seacoast had plenty to be proud of as strikers Maan Alawa, Teyseer Missoum, Carter Madden, Alex Kennedy, and Brian Schwechheimer provided goals for the team. Midfielders Ryan Ruonala, Liam Rendall, Jack Nimmo, Stefanos Dokopoulos, Max Bortz, Austin Marshall, and Anuj Khadka kept possession well and showed some great creativity throughout the tournament. A strong defensive performance from Joseph Belanger, Aaron Dubois, Andrew Hawkins, Alessandro Calzone, and Scott Lamoureux helped in keeping opponents scoreless through the first 233 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Mark Davidson came up big on a number of occasions when he was called upon. The team was coached by James Goodwin and Rick Carvalho and finished as runners-up in the U16 division. U15 Boys Phantoms The U15 Boys Phantoms played their first game against a strong Massapequa squad, and although several chances were made by both teams it was Seacoast United who ran out winners 1-0 with a tremendous goal by Josh Johnston. The squad have only been together for a few practices but yet they seemed to gel so well in this early season match. The second challenge came from another Eastern New York squad in Cortland FC who ran out eventual winners after a dour first half. The opposition squeezed one in the near post after some good defending by Hayden Cassassa and Alex Melanson. Goalkeeper Aaron Spencer was again in outstanding form. The boys had to wait for a new draw for their last opponent of the showcase, facing a Brooklyn Italians side who were well organized and pleasantly surprised by our style of play. Seacoast kept the ball well and should have been ahead when Josh Johnston had a great strike from 20yds whistle past the post. Stellar defending by Melanson and Brandon O’Neal kept the score 0-0. Then from nowhere the Italians scored a winner against the run of play. Losing 0-1 in their final game and going 1-0-2 for the weekend showed very promising results for head coach Brian Germaine. Coach Germaine is looking forward to the next few months of training as the boys prepare for their outdoor season this coming spring. U17 Boys Phantoms The U17 Boys Seacoast United Phantoms took part in the Massapequa Showcase in Long Island over December 3rd & 4th. The boys started out the weekend playing strong against NYE Alleycats, in a game that saw great opportunities on both sides. Tom Sullivan came up big in net a number of times to keep the game close. Unfortunately, after a turnover in the attacking third, the lone goal of the game came late in the second half for the Alleycats. The Phantoms pressed and had a few chances to draw even but could not find the back of the net. TJ Tetreault played well alongside Alec Watkinson in the back. Connor Glynn and Shawn Swist also played well throughout the weekend. Fatigue set in early in their second game, as the Phantoms struggled to find the offense needed against a Hyde Park select NYE team, resulting in a 0-1 loss. In Sunday’s match vs. Hicksville Long Island, the Phantoms finally started to get the offense going in the right direction but failed to top their opponent, losing 0-4. Overall it was a good first showing. The team enjoyed the time getting to know each other and lay the foundation for a productive season.
