The system clock generates a series of clock ticks, which initializes the CPU (Central Processing Unit) 2. The CPU looks to the system’s startup program in the ROM BIOS for its first instruction 3. The first instruction is to run the power-on self-test (POST), in a predetermined memory address 4.
