WHAT TO BRING *This information is an excerpt from the student handbook, please make sure you refer to the most current version found on the Resource Board in Whipple Hill. The following pages outline items that all students should consider when it comes to preparing to attend CCS. Attire is listed first, followed by the minimum gear lists, and ends with items students need for class and when living on dorm. Day students - please make sure that you review the entire list of items found on the following pages, including the list at the end of these pages that outlines items that are not permitted on campus. Wardrobe/attire items: Christchurch School values students for their individuality, accomplishments, and contributions to the School and the wider community and, therefore, does not prescribe a uniform for class or after school activities. Students are expected to dress in a manner that demonstrates respect for themselves and for those in our community. During the class day the school’s standard is simply that clothing be neat, clean, and appropriate to the program of the day. Outside of class students may wear clothing that is comfortable and fits appropriately. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked to change. In situations where a student’s dress is an ongoing concern, s/he will be referred to the Community Life Office. The following guidelines are provided to help with good judgment: • Clothing should be in good repair (no rips, frays, tears, cutoffs, patches, or clothing with inappropriate messages) • Shoes must be worn at all times for safety reasons. • Bathing suits are acceptable as outerwear only at the waterfront. • Generally, shorts and skirts should not be shorter than the tips of your fingers when arms are at sides. • Clothing should cover your stomach and cleavage. (If you can see your stomach when you raise your arms above your head, then generally the item is too short.) • What is underneath (e.g. brastaps, bralettes, underwear, etc.) should not be visible. • Pajamas or flannel drawstrings pants are acceptable only inside the dormitory. • Items that are too tight or too short should not be worn on campus; students are expected to remember the spirit of the dress code and use good judgment when making determinations about these classifications. • Clothing should not advertise, extol, or otherwise depict things that are against Christchurch School Code of Conduct (such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs, hate, etc.) Guidelines for Classroom Dress ● The attire for classroom dress is business casual. For example, collared shirts, non-collared dress shirts, henleys, blouses/shirts with a finished neckline, turtlenecks, and sweaters are appropriate. ● Athletic or dry-fit t-shirts, sheer shirts without an undershirt, tank tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, or open back/cut away clothing are not appropriate for class. ● Reminder, what is underneath should not be visible. ● Pants, skirts or shorts should meet the following guidelines: ○ Khakis, dress, and casual pants are appropriate. ○ No frays, rips, tears, etc. are appropriate. ○ When wearing a tunic, non-transparent leggings are appropriate. A tunic top is described as a loose fitting shirt that may be categorized as a short dress or a long shirt that is hip length; this shirt is not a long t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket, etc. ○ Blue denim, spandex, jeggings, yoga pants, joggers, track pants, athletic attire, or bottoms made of see-through material are not allowed. ○ Skirts, dresses, and shorts should be no shorter than the tips of the fingers when arm are at sides. ● Shoes should be in good repair and may include close-toed shoes and sandals. ● Facial hair is not permitted. ● Except for inconspicuous nose piercings, please do not wear facial piercings or large gauges to class. (If wearing dress shoes that require socks, please wear dress socks.) ● All other classroom dress code guidelines apply. The exception is that you should wear a plain jacket, sweatshirt, sweater, etc., if you’re not wearing a CCS jacket, sweatshirt, hoodie, etc. Guidelines for Off-Campus Dress ● Students who are on a school-sponsored trip should remember they are representing Christchurch School and follow the spirit of the classroom dress.
