sunla CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP MAKING A DIFFERENCE Australia Tennis Academy at Hope Island on the Gold Coast is holding a very special and significant Fund Raising and Awareness Event fittingly titled “The Brad Drewett Charity Day” to help raise the much needed funds for Motor Neurone Disease, Queensland, Australia. We know your business would take great pride in a vested interest for this great community and ask that your kind assistance will help make a significant difference on this very important day. On Sunday 22 March 2015 Australia Tennis Academy will be holding the inaugural “Brad Drewett Charity Tennis Pro-Am Day”, where all funds raised will go to Motor Neurone Disease Queensland, Australia. Following is our proposal for your kind consideration to help support this special day that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of many who suffer with this terrible disease (MND). Brad Drewett was a strikingly handsome pin-up boy and a former great Australian Tennis Player who at the age of 17 was the youngest player to win The Australian Open Junior Championships since Ken Rosewall and John Newcombe. Brad became a valued member in Australia’s Davis Cup Team in the 1980’s whilst breaking into the World’s top 50. Upon retirement as a tennis professional Brad went on to become a leading administrator and then Executive Chairman and President of The ATP (governing body of the worlds men’s professional tennis). Brad Drewett worked tirelessly to leave tennis in a better place and the sport is forever grateful for knowing him. Our “Brad Drewett Charity Day” will be a valued testament to this wonderful man who had touched so many with his love and passion for this great game of tennis, our day is aimed at helping support a cause in which this dis- ease tragically took him from us in 2013 (MND). BRAD DREWETT MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE Dear Sir/Madam Thankyou for the opportunity to apply for your valued support towards an organisation that is very dear to all tennis players hearts, particularly in Australia - Motor Neurone Disease. With the sad loss of the Australian ATP CEO Brad Drewett in 2013 and a long time friend to thousands of tennis enthusiasts across the globe, we believe this wonderful non-profit organisation of MND is befitting our pledge for valued assistance in funding. Our vision and mission is about “awareness” for the much needed raising of funds for this devastating disease. With the kind assistance from you, it will allow us to help provide and produce an empowering awareness campaign with many of Brad’s ATP tennis family friends participating in a PRO-AM “Charity Event” that will bring the much needed fund raising to the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation in Queensland. This event will be held on Sunday 22 March 2015 in association with Noel Callaghan and Wally Masur at the Australia Tennis Academy located at Hope Island on the Gold Coast. MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease, sadly at this time there is no known cure and no effective treatment for MND. Motor function is controlled by the upper motor neurones in the brain that descend to the spinal cord; these neurones activate lower motor neurones. The lower motor neurones exit the spinal cord and directly activate muscles. With no nerves to activate them, muscles gradually weaken and waste. The average life expectancy from the time of diagnosis is 27 months, people with MND progressively lose the use of their limbs and ability to speak, swallow and breathe, whilst their mind and senses usually remain intact. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in most parts of the world and also Lou Gehrig’s disease in the USA. (2) Funds raised from our Charity Event will go to providing free services, support and equipment to MND people as well as MND research. This struggling organisation has minimal funding by the QLD State Government with all other funds for MND being raised through Charity events and donations. Monies raised through this organisation also goes towards maintenance and service of equipment such as wheel chairs etc. This disease affects people in every Country of the globe. Over 420,000 of the world’s people are living with MND (does not include 3rd world Countries) with approximately 140,000 cases diagnosed worldwide each year. That is 384 new cases every day. Charities such as ours are extremely valuable with the hope to endeavour in the search for cause, treatment and cure of this terrible disease - MND. On behalf of everyone at Australia Tennis Academy and the team from the “Brad Drewett Motor Neurone Disease Charity Day”, we thank you again for the opportunity to gain your support for such a worthy cause and hope to have the pleasure of meeting with you to further discuss our special day. We welcome you with open arms to our day to observe and participate in some of the days featured activities. Should you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Noel Callaghan. kindest regards Noel Callaghan Wally Masur Australia Tennis Academy Player Liaison +61 411 224 002 [email protected] BRAD DREWETT MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE TENNIS PRO-AM PROPOSAL SUNDAY 22 MARCH 2015 INTRODUCTION Australia Tennis Academy on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia, is seeking the kind help and assistance from your business for a very special charity to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease Australia. Motor neurones are nerve cells that control the movement of voluntary muscles, that is, muscles that are under conscious control. These include all the muscles of the arms, legs, back and neck and of speech, swallowing and breathing. With no nerves to activate them, muscles gradually weaken and waste, and paralysis ensues. Weakness is often seen first in the hands or feet, or the first sign may be swallowing difficulty or slurred speech. Muscle twitching and/or cramps may also occur. MND affects each person differently in respect of initial symptoms, rate and pattern of progression, and survival time. There are no remissions. Progression of MND is rapid, creating high levels of disability and consequent needs for support. People with MND need assistance with feeding, communication, movement, transferring, toileting, and breathing. MND has an impact on all activities of living. Average survival time after being diagnosed is 2-3 years. MND occurs in all countries of the world. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity or demographic. Over 420,000 of the world’s people are living with MND. There are approximately 140,000 cases diagnosed worldwide each year, that is 384 new cases every day. Early and timely intervention and access to a range of services based on the needs of the individuals and their family includes:- • Specialist physicians and allied health • Counselling and support • Coordinated multidisciplinary care • Equipment to maintain independence, communication, feeding and breathing • Flexible and timely respite for carers • Personal home care and support • Support from volunteers • Funding for research GOALS/OBJECTIVES The success of the “Brad Drewett Motor Neurone Disease Charity Day” held on Sunday 22 March 2015 has two objectives. To help grow and strengthen Awareness and Raising Funds for Motor Nurone Disease. Motor Neurone Disease Association is a non-profit organisation that relies heavily on Government funds, grants, charity events, donors and volunteers. Our fund raising program is scheduled for a one day event with the success being from the generous support from businesses and organisations such as yours along with the assistance of limited staff and many volunteers both from the tennis industry and MND Queensland.
