Channels the energy and determination generated by Jo’s life and murder into practical efforts to advance the causes she championed: • Women in Public Life • Protecting Civilians in Conflict • Loneliness • Building Strong Communities www.jocoxfoundation.org “….what ​surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is that we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.” Jo Cox MP, Maiden Speech 3rd June 2015 • A national movement working towards building strong and resilient communities where everyone has a sense of belonging and identity • Acknowledging the changing face of communities • Focusing on the things which we have in common rather than the things which divide us • Counteracting the narrative of division & negativity • Not party political More in Common, Batley & Spen – volunteer group who came together after Jo was killed: 3 main ways of developing and strengthening communities: • Community based events • Partnerships & Networking to develop a strong MIC network. Lots of win-win relationships across all 3 sectors (Public, Private & Voluntary) • Deeper Level Community Cohesion - engaging with people who don't naturally embrace the MIC philosophy... All interlinked of course... • The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16 June 2016. • We believe there is a groundswell of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to bring our communities together and celebrate all that unites us. • Over 300,000 people took part in The Great Get Together at over 45,000 events in the second Great Get Together on 22-24 June 2018. • Locally - GreatGetTogether2018 • http://www.greatgettogether.org/ RunForJo2018 Iftar SITF Bike Ride from Jo's constituency to London .
