ABOUT THE PROJECT Project location: Latvia, Sigulda and Ludza municipalities Budget – 1 280 964 Euro EUR ➢ EU contribution: 640 482 EUR ➢ Own contribution: 359 512 EUR ➢ State budget: 280 970 EUR Duration: 51 month (01/10/2013 - 31/12/2017) Beneficiaries: ➢ Coordinating – Baltic Environmental Forum – Latvia ➢ Associated - Latvian Fund for Nature, Bio Refinery Entrepreneurship Ltd (Bio RE), Riga Technical University, Sigulda Municipality Council, Ludza LIFE BalticMunicipality networking meeting 2017,Council Pärnu, 28.09.2017., Farm «Skujas» PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND MAIN ACTIVITIES Introduce briefly the objectives of the project. The main goal: to ensure maintenance of biologically valuable grasslands by enhancing alternative, economically sustainable approaches to the use of grassland biomass as well as by establishing co- operation models between farmers, entrepreneurs and local authorities Introduce briefly 3-4 main activities. ➢ Gathering background information on grasslands in Sigulda and Ludza Municipality. ➢ Grassland restoration. ➢ Development of technologies for biogas and biobutanol production and construction of pilot facilities. Gathering background information on grasslands in Sigulda and Ludza municipalities: ➢ Grassland extent and biological quality. ➢ Grassland use. ➢ Grass biomass resources. LIFE Baltic networking meeting 2017, Pärnu, 28.09.2017. CURRENT SITUATION, MEASURED IMPACTS & RESULTS II Introduce briefly the main implemented actions and results of the project until now. Grassland restoration: ➢ 25 ha in Ludza Municipality. ➢ 97 ha in Sigulda Municipality. ➢ Restoration activities (bush and tree cuting, stump and root removal and/or milling, soil planing and processing, controled burning, reseeding, «green hay method», «hay method», waste and stone removal). Development of technologies for biogas and biobutanol production and construction of pilot facilities: ➢ Biogas poduction pilot facility by Bio RE Ltd. ➢ Biobutanol production pilot facility by Riga Technical University. ➢ Demonstration of the results in the pilot areas.
