Endangered Invertebrates

Endangered Invertebrates

Invertebrates I01042017 There are 53 species of freshwater mussels and 12 aquatic snails listed as either threatened or endangered in Alabama. Like the fishes, preserving water quality and streambed habitat can best protect them from the effects of forestry operations. Closely following guidelines in Alabama’s Best Management Practices for Forestry will help ensure minimal impacts to freshwater invertebrates and their habitat. This list contains all counties in which the species are known to or believed to occur as reported by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service website. Species names followed by an asterisk (*) are listed as endangered and all others as threatened.
