Grasmere Sunday 9th September 2018 (Leaving @6.00pm) Transport Information: Coach leaves Toby Carvery, Arrowe Park, at 8.30am. Cost: £13.00 (£15 for non-members) Coach stop en-route: Burton (15 minutes) Coach will be available from 4.30pm and leave at 6.00pm (During the day the coach mobile number will be: 07895 152449) For more information and guidance on walking please visit our website – www.wirralramblers.org.uk A Walk Starting from Grasmere, we head to Silver Howe and on to Stickle Tarn via Great Castle Howe. We then ascend Pavey Ark and make our way to Thunacar Knott, continuing S to High Raise and Greenup Edge, returning to Grasmere via Gibson Knott and Helm Crag. Distance: 21kms (13mls); Ascent: 1219 (4000ft); Walk Points: 21 B Plus Walk Starting from Grasmere we head NW up Helm Crag. We proceed along the lovely ridge to Calf Crag. Then we climb High Raise. Return is via Sergeant Man, Blea Rigg and Swinscar Hause. Distance: 19kms (12mls); Ascent: 750m (2,500ft); Walk Points: 16 B Minus Walk Leave Grasmere NW on Easedale Rd to Lancrigg before beginning the iconic ascent of Helm Crag (Lion and Lamb.) With most of the climbing now behind us we enjoy lunch before following the ridge for the next few miles NW to Gibson Knott and Calf Crag (537m) with continuous excellent views on either side (weather permitting). The path then descends into Far Easedale and we follow the valley path SE by the Gill until we eventually meet another path heading S and SW ascending to Easedale Tarn. We descend E (on the path S of Sour Milk Gill to Easedale) and SE past some wonderful waterfalls on our return to Grasmere. Distance: 14.2kms (8.8mls); Ascent: 605m (1,985ft); Walk Points: 13 C Walk Leader From Grasmere we take the undulating Coffin Trail SE to Rydal. We then follow a track S alongside the River Rothay. Passing Fox How we make a short, steepish ascent (pausing often to take in the views) to Millers Brow. Turning W we make a gradual ascent before descending SW, skirting round Ivy Crag, to take paths NW, then N, past Loughrigg Tarn to Loughrigg Terrace. We descend to take a path W around the Lake and then by road back to Grasmere. Easy terrain and stunning views throughout. Distance: 13.6kms (8.5mls); Ascent: 300m (1,000ft); Walk Points: 10.5 D Walk Leader Starting from Grasmere Village we take a country lane towards Grasmere Lake and eventually picking up a footpath down to the lakeside. Continuing east dropping down towards Rydal Water we pass through woodland before crossing the River Rothay and on towards Rydal Beck. We then continue on a section of the Coffin Route before returning to the village.
