The three people, including an owner of a night club, were arrested on suspicion of being undocumented foreign nationals as they failed to produce documentation proving they are in the country illegally. MEC Pillay led the inspections which were conducted by teams from EDTEA’s business regulation unit, the SAPS, Metro Police, the KZN Liquor Authority, the Gaming and Betting Board. During the inspections, MEC Pillay inspected 10 establishments to check their compliance with business and Disaster Management regulations. Three of these were issued with compliance notices for non-compliance while one other was issued with a fine of R1000. MEC Pillay said it was concerning that there was no proper ventilation and social distancing at some of the establishments visited. He said the inspections were part of efforts to fight Covid-19.
