A cIadistic analysis was applied to determine phylogenetic relationships of genera in the Neotropica! tàmily HlImiriaceae. Twenty-four om of fifty-tWo characters on morphology, anatomy, palynology, ontogeny and chemotaxonomy cOllld be polarized by the mllltiple omgrollp comparison method. Monophyly of the family is confirmed by three synapomorphies involving morphology of androecillm and fruit, and wood anatomy. Monophyly and relationships of the eight HlImiriaceae genera are sllpported by several synapomorphies. The present phylogenetic hypothesis is in accordance with the following parenthetical notation tree: (Tímtanea (Humiria ((Schistostemon (Humiriastrum + Sacoglottis» + (Hylocarpa (Duckesia + Endopleura»»).
