AJA Students are Academic Leaders with Islamic Values 1 Early Years Kindergarten Message From Head of KG Dear Al Jazeera Academy Families and Staff, It is with a heavy heart I write this letter to the Al Jazeera Academy community; all the parents, students and staff. Some of you may already be aware that this will be my last academic year at Al Jazeera Academy. My final day will be on Thursday, 22nd June 2017. I want to thank each and every one of you for all your support over the years. I am honoured and feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to be part of the Al Jazeera Academy community. I have so many wonderful memories of my time here and I am so sad to say goodbye. This was not an easy decision, however, I feel this is the right decision for me to return home to Canada at this time. Know that my dedication to my position as your Head of Kindergarten will continue as we transition to new leadership and complete the 2016-2017 academic year. I have fostered relationships with many of you and I will cherish the moments and friendships I have made during my time. AJA has been a very special place for me and I will miss everyone. Although it is hard to say goodbye to the parents and adults, the hardest part is saying goodbye to the children. I have loved watching them grow into amazing young and independent people. I am so proud of them and wish them all the best continuing on their learning journey. Please let them know how they’ve touched my heart and my life. I will treasure my memories of them all. Please accept my sincere thanks and appreciation as I enter into a new Ms. Christina Pickford chapter of my own. Nursery A had lots of fun activities that are connected to the topic of the week: Day and Night. We talked about our daily routine before bedtime, i.e., tidying up toys, drinking milk, brushing our teeth, cleaning our bodies and wearing of our pajamas. We discussed about health options for breakfast and the importance of breakfast. Then we made hot chocolate and toast and had fruit for our breakfast, which was great fun eating breakfast with all our friends. Then we snuggled up with our blankets and pillows while watching movies and eating popcorn. We all had a great PJ’s Day. Minibeasts In Nursery B we had fun learning about the different mini-beasts. We did various activities to help us understand what some of them looked like and also went outside to try and hunt for our own beasts. We found some ants and a few wiggly worms in the mud! We also explored in the classroom and made our own mini-beast garden in our role play area! 3 Early Years Kindergarten World Book Day World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children in AJA kindergarten. To help get them started on their reading journey. We celebrated books by dressing up as their favourite characters and decorating our doors and our story was peter pan, we also win the best door displays in Nursery D this year. The parents joined us to build thier child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together, book fair, doors and best dressing up competitions and awards. These activities explore settings, characters and alternative endings, rewriting stories, writing the blurb for a book’s back cover and giving book reviews. Being healthy Oral hygiene is an everyday part of life that people have to be mindful of. In Reception B children are taught the negative effects of not brushing teeth and eating fast food every day. Therefore, our students have shown a very good understanding of the importance of having a daily routine for oral hygiene and to eat healthy food every day. 4 Early Years Kindergarten Sports Day What a fantastic morning the AJA KG children had on the 15th of February inside our building for our annual Sports Day, that even the cloudy weather never stopped them from enjoying this event. All the children from different classes took part in each game. Everyone enjoyed the games e.g. Bean Bag Toss, Go Noddle, Hula Hoop Race, Egg and Spoon, Long Jump, Basketball Net, Hurdles, Javelin, Tug-of War, Sack Race, Obstacle Course and the Bicycle Race. It was lovely to see Reception D children being competitive and determined while implementing our Tarbeya value for the month about “Fairness”, i.e. playing by the rules, taking turns and sportsmanship towards each other throughout the day. Before home time, everyone gathered in the KG hall where Ms. Christina handed out certificates in appreciation for everyone’s participation. Math made fun! Numicon is a fantastic new Mathematics resource which was introduced in the Kindergarten Department during Semester 1 and it’s prove to be a success in Nursery and Reception. Numicons are coloured shapes made from plastic with holes that correspond to the numbers 1 to 10. The pattern of the holes for each number follows the same basic system of arranging holes in pairs so when they are aligned in order, students can notice important connections between numbers. The same applies with the coloured rods which can be used with sequencing and makes it easier to introduce mathematical concepts of addition and subtraction. Some children in Reception G have become familiar with the materials so that they can now understand number bonds. 5 Primary Introduction from The Head of Primary Message from The Head of Primary Dear Parents I will be leaving Al Jazeera at the end of this academic year.
