SLS 21RS-189 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87 BY SENATOR TALBOT COMMENDATIONS. Commends Colonel Lamar A. Davis upon his appointment as the superintendent of the Louisiana State Police. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Colonel Lamar A. Davis upon his appointment as the superintendent of the 3 Louisiana State Police. 4 WHEREAS, on October 30, 2020, Colonel Lamar A. Davis was appointed as the 5 twenty-sixth superintendent of the Louisiana State Police; and 6 WHEREAS, he also serves as the deputy secretary of the office of public safety 7 services; and 8 WHEREAS, as superintendent, Colonel Davis is responsible for an agency of more 9 than twenty-six hundred employees, with a budget of almost five hundred million dollars and 10 collections of more than two and one-half billion dollars in revenue; and 11 WHEREAS, as deputy secretary of the Louisiana State Police, he oversees the 12 Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the office of management and finance, the office 13 of motor vehicles, the office of state fire marshal, the office of the Louisiana oil spill 14 coordinator, and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission; and 15 WHEREAS, Colonel Davis is a native of Baton Rouge and earned a Bachelor of 16 Science in Rehabilitation Services from Southern University and A&M College in Baton 17 Rouge and a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice from Southern University at New Orleans; 18 and Page 1 of 2 SLS 21RS-189 ORIGINAL SR NO. 87 1 WHEREAS, he began his career with the Louisiana State Police in 1998 as a patrol 2 trooper assigned to Troop A in Baton Rouge; and 3 WHEREAS, Colonel Davis has held career assignments in the law enforcement areas 4 of patrol, criminal intelligence, gaming enforcement, criminal investigations, and operational 5 development; and 6 WHEREAS, prior to his appointment, he served as the commander of the technology 7 and business support section of the Louisiana State Police; and 8 WHEREAS, Colonel Davis has more than twenty-five years of law enforcement 9 experience, including previously serving as a Department of Public Safety police officer, 10 East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy, and a Louisiana Department of Corrections 11 officer; and 12 WHEREAS, he served in active duty with the United States Army and the Louisiana 13 Army National Guard; and 14 WHEREAS, Colonel Davis is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations 15 National Academy, a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, and 16 the recipient of numerous commendations and awards, including an award for professional 17 excellence, the Meritorious Service Award, the Unit Citation, and the Physical Fitness 18 Award; and 19 WHEREAS, Colonel Davis has exhibited diligence, dedication, and commitment to 20 protecting the people of Louisiana through his service as a law enforcement officer. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 22 commend and congratulate Colonel Lamar A. Davis upon his appointment as the 23 twenty-sixth superintendent of the Louisiana State Police. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 25 Colonel Lamar A. Davis.
