MATCH DAY PROGRAM 3rd / 5th June 2017 Photo courtesy of AT Photo UPPER HUTT CITY VS PETONE SATURDAY 3:00 UPPER HUTT CITY VS TAWA MONDAY 2:00 A message from Mark . Crikey – where do I start, last week we played Western Suburbs reserves in what turned out to be a game for the spectators. Plenty of goals, some great attacking play and some sloppy defending from both sides and to top it all off a bit of feisty ness towards the end. Our defence has been one of our strongest parts of our game this year and for one reason or another it let us down and we conceded a whopping 5 goals. This is no means a criticism of the back 4 alone as I have always said we start defending from the front and work our way back from there. Hopefully this was just a blip on the radar and we can get back to our miserly best over the weekend. In saying that though there were plenty of positives as well, we scored 4 great goals and it could have been more. The spirit the team showed to come back 3 times and nearly a 4th when we hit the cross bar in the 97th minute. This weekend will certainly test the squad as today we welcome Paul, and the undefeated (on the field) Petone side and their supporters. Paul has certainly got a talented squad and has got them playing very well. Having spent ten years at Petone, I know how hard they work at getting things right both on and off the field and know they will be hurting from last year’s performance. A wounded team is always very tough to beat but I’m sure we won’t be lying down for them as there is nothing better than winning against your former club. City Review A message from Mark . Then on Monday, thanks to the Queen for letting us have the day off work, we welcome Richard, Lance and the Tawa team for a Chatham Cup match, in hope to continue the dream. We only played Tawa two weeks ago at Redwood Park in which turned out to be a very tight affair, ending 1 apiece. Let’s hope it doesn’t end that way today otherwise we will have to play another 30 minutes and then possibly penalty’s, which I’m sure the spectators will enjoy. What I’m sure of though is that we have learnt a lot from that encounter and will hopefully put this into practise and put the game to bed in 90 minutes. To add to the difficulty of these games, Petone & Tawa are tighter than Sam Rausch and have the best defences in the league, only conceding 8 goals in 9 games, we will have to be at our very best to break them down to get the rewards that we want. Both games stack up to be crackers for their own reasons, let’s hope we end up on the right side of the ledger and keep up with the leaders and keep the cup dream alive! Look forward to catching up with you in the club after the games, remember to shout for the orange, it certainly does spur the team on! Foz City Review Introducing your teams .
