I he District Census Handbook (DCHB) 'published by Census Organisation I, since T 1951 census, is one of the important publications in the context of planning and deveJopme'nt at grassroots levef. The publication; which is brought out fo~ ea<;h district, contains several demographic and socia-economic characteristics village-wise and town-wise of the district alongwith the status of availability of civi~ amenities, infrastructural facilities,, etc. The scope of the DCHB was initially confined to a few Census Tabl~s an~ Primary' Census Abstract (PCA) pf each village and tow~ within the district. 'Thereafter, at successive censuses, it~ sc;ope ~md'c'overage has been _enlarged. The DCHB published at the 1961 census provided a des~riptive aceD,unt of the district, administrative statistics, census tables and a village and town directory includi"ng PCA. The '1971 census-DCHB series was in three parts: 'Part-A related to village and town directory, Part-B ~o village an'd townPCA and Part­ e comprised analytical report, admini'strati ve statistics, district census tablesand certain arialytical tables based on,PCA and amenity data in respecfofvillages.
