Lead Pastor Candidate Packet

GOODYEAR, ARIZONA kkchurch.org LEAD PASTOR CANDIDATE PACKET GREETINGS, We are so glad you are considering King of Kings and our pursuit of a new lead pastor. King of Kings was carefully planted and has been thoughtfully cultivated for over 14 years. We want to grow as a church whose life is rooted in an abiding love for the gospel and an enduring liturgy that embodies our theological convictions. We value knowing and glorifying God through the regular participation in liturgical worship as a community and the body of Christ. We are seeking a lead pastor who is a fisher of men, a disciple maker, passionate about excellence in preaching and teaching, the care and keeping of the body, and upholding the centrality of the gospel. We pray this packet communicates a portrait of King of Kings’ vision, story, and distinctives. We ask you to prayerfully consider the packet we have assembled for you. May God bless our efforts and your contemplation of King of Kings. We look forward to hearing from you! WORSHIPING THE KING ● The greatness of the King evokes whole-hearted worship—worship that reverently celebrates the glory of God. ● God is both present and active in worship through the reading and preaching of the Scriptures, the offering of prayers, the singing of his praise, the mysteries of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the fellowship of the body to transform people into the image of his Son. SERVING THE KING ● God calls the church to make and mature disciples of the King. ● God calls Christians to serve the King in every part of life so that we might bring honor, glory, and praise to Jesus Christ. King of Kings PCA 7 OUR DISTINCTIVES HISTORICAL - King of Kings is rooted in historical orthodoxy. ● We believe that the Bible is God-breathed and authoritative. ● We affirm that Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is the central fact of human history. ● We believe the Divine Story of redemption and salvation Who We Are is made possible only by the work of Christ on the cross, involving the miraculous transformation of the heart, or conversion, applied to us by the Spirit. ● We affirm the foundational creeds and beliefs that are common to all Christians, and which consistently and harmoniously reflect biblical truth (i.e. The Apostle’s Creed, The Nicene Creed). ● We believe that the celebration of the Lord’s table is a vital part of our corporate worship and we celebrate it weekly. ● The denominational constitution for the PCA consists of The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Shorter and Larger Catechisms, and The PCA Book of Church Order. MISSIONAL - King of Kings seeks to be countercultural through worship and the pursuit of gospel centered living. ● We believe we are called to confront society’s idols with the truth of the gospel through preaching, teaching, and outreach and demonstrating life as a community of grace. ● We believe in meeting people where they are. We equip the congregation to care for others as we listen, converse, show hospitality and gather for worship. King of Kings PCA 8 WORSHIPFUL - King of Kings exists to worship as a body in all we do. ● We pursue excellence in worship and believe the modern church should continue to use forms and functions of worship services as presented in the New Testament and developed throughout church history. ● We embrace a liturgical approach, encouraging active participation of the congregation, including hymns - ancient and modern, confessions of sin and faith, focusing on the preaching of the Word, and participation of the sacraments. ● King of Kings is actively participating in the grand narrative of God redeeming his people through the saving grace of Christ’s blood (The five solas of the Reformation). ● We express this salvation through faith and repentance, as a gift of God and not something we earn or merit (The Doctrines of Grace). GRATEFUL - We strive to be thankful for all of God’s good gifts to us and enjoy these gifts together. ● We gather regularly as a congregation and from house to house to enjoy fellowship with one another, partaking of good food and drink to the glory of God. ● A common refrain among us is that we want to be a church that parties well. GROWING - We seek to grow in number and in faithfulness. King of Kings PCA 9 OUR PASTORAL SEARCH COMMITTEE KATE FAITH - MEMBER FOR 6 YEARS Kate has been a member of King of Kings since 2013.
