Eg: Little Chalky Island CA, Henderson Islets CA, Night Island CA, Brick Islands CA. These are now in the terrestrial dataset. For reserves which in Tasmanian data, have a dual IUCN category (II/Ib), the IUCN category that was nominated for CAPAD 2016 (II) has been adopted for this data supply. The boundary of the state-waters part of Macquarie Island NR concurs with Tas legislation and plans, but you may need to adjust the linework to make it fit with the adjacent Commonwealth Marine Reserve. Please let me know if you have any problems or queries. Regards Felicity From: s47F @environment.gov.au] Sent: Thursday, 15 March 2018 4:30 PM To: Faulkner, Felicity (DPIPWE) Cc: s47F Subject: CAPAD 2018 - TAS [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED] Hello Felicity, It’s nearly that time again, it’s a CAPAD year and we are starting to think about the next version – CAPAD 2018! If it happens that you are no longer the primary technical contact for the Tasmanian data contribution to CAPAD could you please let me know and forward this email to the correct officer. CAPAD 2018 will incorporate all protected areas as at 30 June 2018. As with earlier versions of CAPAD, we will be collecting spatial and attribute data for both terrestrial and marine areas. From DPIPWE, as previously, we’re seeking terrestrial and marine data for Tasmania. This email is to give you advance notice that we will be asking for your data contribution to CAPAD after June 30 this year and we hope that you will be able to make your contribution by Friday 10th August so that we can begin compiling the database. We are currently in the process of finalising the technical specifications for CAPAD 2018 and we will be in contact again and provide these by the end of May. Please let us know if you would like to receive this information earlier 1 2 of 36 than this. We will also provide a shell ESRI file geodatabase (.gdb) that you can to copy your information into, but you are also welcome to provide your data in shapefile format. I’ve attached the signed letter from my colleague in the Biodiversity Conservation Division (who now has policy carriage of CAPAD within the Department) that was sent to the Deputy Secretary of the Parks and Wildlife Service, DPIPWE, for your information. Thank you in advance for your important contribution to CAPAD. We look forward to working with you later in the year. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. It represents land reserved to be managed for biodiversity conservation under Tasmania’s Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) and other instruments. The layer combines data from several sources, including: - LIST Public Land Classification [ANZTA0005000047] - Wellington Park - LIST Private Reserves [ANZTA0005000004] - Land purchased by the Private Land Conservation Program (PLCP) for conservation of CAR values not yet proclaimed, and other planned reserves ** - Stewardship Agreements ** these reserves are “planned” (NRS_PA = “I”) Search Words: Protected Area, CAR, Comprehensive, Adequate, Representative, Reserves, National Reserve System, Biodiversity, Conservation, Tasmania, CAPAD. Geographic Extent Name: Tasmania Bounding Box: -39.2 143.5E 149.0E -44.0 Dataset Currency Beginning Date: April 1908 Ending Date: 30th June, 2018 Dataset Status Progress: Complete as at 30th June, 2018 Maintenance & Update: Biennially, or more frequently if required. Dataset Access Stored Data Format(s): Digital – ESRI Shapefiles Available Format Types: Digital – ESRI Shapefiles Access Constraints: nil Protected Areas Metadata 1 of 3 4 of 36 Data Quality Lineage: The Protected Areas dataset is made up of data from the various data sources through the application of business rules. A more detailed document: Business rules for the creation of the Tasmanian Reserve Estate spatial layer is available on request. The Protected Areas dataset is a subset of the Tasmanian Reserve Estate spatial layer. Only reserves that were effective as at the nominated date (30th June, 2018) are included. Because the constituent data layers are of different spatial accuracy, they were combined in such a way that layers sourced from the LIST were given priority. That is, where overlaps occurred, the attributes from the LIST layers were used. The resulting reserves layer was overlaid with the mean high water mark and estuaries layers, to determine which reserves are terrestrial, and which are in the marine environment. Reserves with a marine portion and a terrestrial portion were labelled as having both. Terrestrial reserves include offshore islands and inland waters. Positional Accuracy: The positional accuracy of the Protected Areas varies depending on the source of the data. Refer to the positional accuracy for those layers where metadata is available already: LIST Public Land Classification, LIST Private Reserves. The positional accuracy of the boundaries of the final Protected Areas dataset should not be inferred as being better than +/- 50 metres. The dataset is broadly suitable for depiction at a mapping scale of 1:50,000. Tasmania’s coastline data are undergoing a review. The data used to supply CAPAD are based on the preliminary Tasmanian Reserve Estate spatial layer and does not include all reviewed coastal linework to 30th June 2018. Attribute Accuracy: Attributes have been assigned through the use of the business rules and from what has been provided with the source data and extracted from other text databases. A lookup table was developed to populate many of the attributes. Where the value of an attribute is unknown, it is left blank, or has a value of “Unknown”. At times the specific reserve to which a value was to be attributed was difficult to identify, particularly for those reserves with unproclaimed names, such as covenants. Logical Consistency: Data has been quality assured by Land Tasmania and the NCH Divisions of DPIPWE. The data has been checked against component datasets and has no overlaps. Protected Areas Metadata 2 of 3 5 of 36 Completeness: The data covers all known reserves in Tasmania that meet NRS requirements, and selected other reserve types that provide a more comprehensive picture of Tasmania’s reserve system. The data is suited for use as a statewide overview, for reporting purposes and for determining reservation status. Tasks requiring a more current layer, or precise boundaries should use the live datasets that are available on the LIST. The GAZ_AREA field is not able to be populated, because records of each gazettal and addition are not complete.
