PAULO BRANCO BIOGRAPHIE Born in Lisbon, in 1950. Goes to London in 1971 and in 1973 arrives at Paris. In 1979 starts is career as a producer, between Paris and London and till the date has produced more than 200 films, signed by names such as Manoel de Oliveira Wim Wenders, João César Monteiro, Raoul Ruiz, Chantal Akerman, Alain Tanner, Werner Schroeter, Robert Kramer, Pedro Costa, André Téchiné, Andrzej Zoulawski, Peter Handke, Laurence Ferreira Barbosa, Cédric Kahn, João Botelho, João Mário Grilo, João Canijo, Teresa Villaverde, José Álvaro Morais, Jean Claude Biette, Sharunas Bartas, Michel Piccoli, Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi, Christophe Honoré, Paul Auster... With a recognized worldwide career as a producer, Paulo Branco is also a distributor and exhibitor, in Portugal and in France. His contribution to the dynamic of independent cinema is remarkable as well as on the spread of its international visibility during the last decades. He is the Managing Director of Portuguese Production Companies Clap Filmes and Leopardo Filmes, and of the Distribution Company Atalanta Filmes. In France, he created the Production Company, Alfama Films. 1 Since the beginning of his career as a producer, Paulo Branco as been an assiduous presence in the most renowned film festivals throughout the world: Cannes, Venice, Berlin, New York, Toronto, Tokyo, São Paulo, Montreal, Salónica... and he’s been part of the juries of Berlin (1999); Venice (2005) and Rotterdam (2006), Lecce and Locarno (President of the Jury) in 2011 Paulo Branco is also the Director of the Estoril Film Festival, event that was founded in 2007 and has already 5 editions of existence, which counted with the presence of various personalities of all walks of art, national and international, as David Lynch; Pedro Almodóvar; Bernardo Bertolucci; Francis Ford Coppola; David Cronenberg; Juliette Binoche; Louis Garrel; Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi; Catherine Deneuve; Isabelle Hupert; Julião Sarmento; Paul Auster; Don Delillo; J.M.
