This fall Hamilton began a nationwide tour, starting with performances in Boston at the Boston Opera House and continuing onto 13 other cities and states. In concert with the actual theater performance, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History’s Hamilton Education Program is giving Title 1 high schools an opportunity to see the award-winning Broadway musical at a nominal cost. On Thursday, October 18, 180 Malden High School students and 20 staff filled five buses to Boston and took part in the full-day Hamilton Education Program. While tickets for the show are $199.00 face value and are often re-sold for four or five times that amount.. or more, MHS students joined 2,500 others from across state and paid only $10,00 due to support from the show’s producers, the Rockefeller Foundatons, the Lynch Foundation, Broadway in Boston and the John Gore Organization. In a Blue & Gold story, History teacher Michelle Filer said that the department received the news that they would be attending the show in May or April of the 2017-2018 school year.
