In summer we go on holiday or to the swimming pool. It is hot and the sun is very strong. We always go on holiday by plane. We can eat ice-cream. We put ice to every drink. I like mint or strawbery lemonade. My favourite food in summer is ice-cream or ice lollies. I hate to put on suncream and I hate salt water in my hair. 3 OUR HOME TOWN Bratislava Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia. It is an old town. The river Danube flows through Bratislava. There are five bridges in my town. They are called Apollo bridge, SNP bridge, Old bridge, Harbour bridge and Lafranconi bridge. Bratislava isn’t on a hill. It has got two castles. These castles are called Bratislava castle and Devín castle. Bratislava is at a crossroads. The roads go to Budapest, Vienna, Brno and to Trnava. Bratislava has got a few markets, for example Tržnica Miletičova. There are also many squares. The most famous is Main square but there isn’t a market. Adela Hudecová, 5.C 4 BRATISLAVA This town is old and it is the capital of Slovakia. The Danube river flows through Bratislava. The Main square in Bratislava is Hlavné námestie. There is a Christmas market in this square. The classic market with fruit and vegetables is in Miletičová Street. Bratislava is at the crossroad of Brno in the North, Budapest in the South, Košice in the East and Vienna in the West. There are many shpping centres for example: Bory Mall, Aupark, Avion, Polus, Eurovea etc. There are two national theaters in Bratislava, one is opposite Eurovea and the other is in Hviezdoslav square. Daniela Hlatká, 5.C 5 MY BEST FRIEND His name is Ondrik. He is nine years old. He can swim. He can dance. He can’t play tennis. He can ride a bike. He likes dogs. He likes games. He likes reading books. He doesn’t like spiders. His favourite food is „granadir“. Lukáš Seidner, 3.C Riško Szilárd, 3.C My best friend is Luky. He is nine years old. His hair is blond and his eyes are blue. On Tuesdays we play tennis and on Thursdays we play floorball. He’s good at it. He likes to play with his friends. I like him, he is nice and funny. My best friend is Milanko. He lives in Kráľová pri Senci. He is 7 years old. His favourite food is spaghetti and pizza. He likes dogs. He can ride a bike and he can swim, but he can’t play tennis. Milanko is good at football. Oliver Sládečko, 3.C 6 My best friend is Marko. Marko is nine years old. He can play floorball. He can’t dance. He is a goalman, he is very good at it. Every Thursday we play together. He likes spaghetti and hamburgers with chips. Samko Šramatý, 3.C My best friend is a girl. My best friend is 9 years old. Her name is Dominika. My friend can´t play tennis. My friend can play volleyball. She hasn´t got a pet at home but her grandma has got 3 cats. She has got blue eyes and long fair hair. We like to eat wafles. I like to drink water but Dominika likes to drink cola. We like to ride a bike in the park on Saturday. On Wednesday we feed the ducks. Rebeka Společníková, 3.C 7 My best friend is Dorotka. She is 8 ears old. She can play football. She is good at it. Dorotka can also play dodgeball, but she can’t sail a boat. She likes spaghetti, lemonade and cakes, but she doesn’t like spinach. Saška Sedliaková, 3.C My best friend My best friend is Danielka. She is nine years old. She has got long brown hair and big black eyes. She can play the piano. She is good at it. She can also dance and swim. She can’t ski and play tennis. Danielka has got one brother. His name is Jožko. Danielka likes to play with her brother. Her favourite food is pizza. She also likes to eat spaghetti, chicken and chips. She doesn’t like spinach with egg. Her favourite drink is mineral water. She also likes to drink tea, apple juice an cola. She doesn’t like coffee. She hasn’t got a pet, but she likes dogs and cats. She is scared of snakes and spiders. She is a very good friend. Miška Šurnovská, 3.C 8 HEROES AND HEROINES IN SLOVAKIA ĽUDOVÍT ŠTÚR He was a Slovak politician, philosopher, historian, linguist, writer, poet, journalist, editor and educator. He was born on 28 October 1815 in Uhrovec. He was the son of Samuel Štúr and his wife Anna Štúrová. He studied 12 languages, he did not use “y” and he did not enjoy love. In 1838 he began studying at the University of Halle, where he worked for two years. He studied theology, history, philosophy. After completing his studies, he returned to Bratislava and began working again at the Department of Slovak Language and Literature. He became famous by enacting a literary Slovak at a time when the official language in Slovakia was Hungarian and our territory belonged to Hungarians. Before death he was under the control of the Hungarian police in Modra. It was an unfortunate coincidence that he was shot in the foot. He died on 12 January 1856. Laura Kováčová, 7.A 9 Janko Matúška by Ingrid Kernová, 7.C Janko Matúška was born in 1821 and died on 11 January 1877. He was a Slovak poet, activist, occasional playwright, and clerk of the court. Janko Matúška was born in the family of the craftsman Juraj Matúška and his wife Zuzana Bencúrová. He is best known as the author of the Slovak national anthem, Nad Tatrou sa blýska based on the melody of the Slovak folk song Kopala studienku in 1844. His nemorial is in Dolný Kubín. 10 PAVOL ORSZÁGH HVIEZDOSLAV Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav was born in 1849 and he died in 1921. He was a Slovak writer, poet, dramatist, translator, and for a short time, member of the Czechoslovak parliament. First, he wrote in a traditional style, but later became influenced by parnassism and modernism. He introduced the syllabic-tonic verse into Slovak poetry and became the leading representative of Slovak literary realism. His style is charakterized by extensive use of self-coined words and expressions, making it difficult to translate his works into foreign languages. His dramas are for example: na Luciu, Oblaky, Pomsta. His statue at Hviezdoslavovo námestie in Bratislava Slovakia Dianka Horváthová, 7.C JÁN BAHÝĽ He was born in 1856 and died in 1915. He had a technical talent. As a construction technician he worked in the Austrian part of Poland, in Galicia and until 1895 in Dalmatia. Later he moved to Bratislava. He made a number of proposals to improve artillery technology and rail transport. He dealt with many different problems. In 1894, he designed a helicopter design with human power. Between 1901 and 1903 an improved model of the Bahýľ helicopter called AVION was created at Marschall's workshop. He made many inventions, for example: Helicopter Balloon Tank Elevator Matúš Kráľ, 7.C 11 Milan Lasica He was born on 3rd February,1940 in Zvolen. As a child he lived in Pliešovce. He studied dramaturgy at the VŠMU in Bratislava. During his studies he began to perform in the Tatra Revue, where he and Julius Satinský showed his authorial dialogues. In 1964-67 he worked as a dramaturge of Czechoslovak television, from 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the theater Na korze in Bratislava,1971-1972 Večerní Brno, 1972-1978 Nová scéna, Bratislava and since 1978 a member of the theater Nová scéna. Since 1982, he has been the art director of Studio S, where he now acts as director. With his wife Magda Vašáryová, actress, diplomat he has daughters Hana and Žofia. He has a Merit Medal. In socialism, he and Julius Satinský were one of the most popular TV and film actors in Czechoslovakia. Emília Vašáryová She was born on 18th May,1942 in Horná Štubňa. As a child she lived in Banská Štiavnica. In 1963 she studied acting at VŠMU in Bratislava. She was a member of the theater Nová scéna and since 1964 she is a member of the Slovak national theater. At present, viewers can see her at the theater Pavla Országha Hviezdoslava. In 1978 she was given the title of a deserving artist. She collaborates with radio, film and television. She currently works at the VŠMU as a pedagogue. Emília Vášáryová has sister Magda Vašáryová. She is also a well-known actress, but since November 1989 she has been working in politics. She has two sons -Tomáš and Juraj. Kristína Pažitková, 7.A 12 Pavol Demitra Pavol Demitra was a great hockey player. He played in NHL as well as in KHL.
