Rotman Architectural Team Profiles Bruce Kuwabara

LINK: ROTMAN ARCHITECTURAL TEAM PROFILES BRUCE KUWABARA (OAA, FRAIC, AIA, RIBA, OC, Founding Partner), Design Partner Bruce Kuwabara is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Arch, 1971). His contributions to Toronto’s Cultural Renaissance include Canada’s National Ballet School, the Bell Lightbox for the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Gardiner Museum. His current projects include the Departments of Economics and International Initiatives at Princeton University, the new Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the Global Centre for Pluralism for the Aga Khan Foundation, and the Athletes' Village for the 2015 Pan American Games. He is the first Chair of Waterfront Toronto's Design Review Panel and a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. He is a recipient of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Gold Medal (2006) and an Officer of the Order of Canada (2012). MARIANNE MCKENNA (OAA, OAQ, FRAIC, AIA, OC, Founding Partner), Partner-in-charge Marianne McKenna studied architecture a Yale University (M.Arch, 1976). Award-winning projects include the Royal Conservatory TELUS Performance and Learning Centre, Le Quartier Concordia for Concordia University in Montreal and the law offices for Torys LLP in Toronto. Current projects include Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, the new Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto, the MIT Walker Art Centre, and the University of Waterloo Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum Nano Centre. Marianne sits on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Contemporary Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum and is a board member of Metrolinx. She was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network in 2010 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2012. LUIG LAROCCA (OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP), Principal-in-Charge Luigi LaRocca is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Arch. 1979). He has been with KPMB since its founding and was made a principal in 2011. He has worked on a number of KPMB’s critically-acclaimed academic projects, including the Canadian Embassy in Berlin, the LEED Platinum-certified corporate headquarters for Manitoba Hydro in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the consolidated home for the Toronto International Film Festival. He is currently the Principle-in-Charge of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. PAULO ROCHA, Associate-in-Charge and Design/Project Architect Paulo Rocha is a graduate of University of Toronto (B.Arch, 1996). Rocha joined KPMB upon graduation and was named an associate in 2011. He has played a leading role on many winning competition schemes including the Star Alliance Lounge at the Zurich International Airport and Le Quartier Concordia. He was project/design architect for the Centennial Science and Technology Centre, and the Gardiner Museum in Toronto. As the associate-in-charge of the Rotman Expansion project, Paulo worked on the all phases including the winning competition design. DAVE SMYTHE, Associate-in-Charge/Project Architect Dave Smythe was educated at the University of Western Ontario (B.Eng,1984) and McGill University (B.Arch, 1992). Smythe joined KPMB in 2000 and was named an associate in 2011. He was the project architect managing the construction phases of the Royal Conservatory TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning for which he received the Toronto Construction Association Certificate of Excellence and played a similar role on the Rotman Expansion project. MYRIAM TAWADROS, Interiors Project Architect Myriam Tawadros is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B. Arch. Honours, 2002) and joined KPMB upon graduation. She has worked on Canada’s National Ballet School, Sugar Cube in Denver, Colorado and the Ryerson University Master Plan. For the Rotman Expansion, Tawadros was interiors project architect through all phases.
