French Horn FLUTE The flute is a woodwind instrument. The flute does not use a reed; sound is made by blowing air across the opening. OBOE The oboe is a double-reeded wind instrument. Double-reeds are two reeds tied together. Noise is made by blowing into the instrument through the reeds. CLARINET The clarinet is a woodwind with a single reed. This instrument has many keys and sound is made by blowing into the mouthpiece. BASSOON The bassoon is a large double-reed instrument. It is similar to the oboe but much larger and has a much deeper voice. SAXOPHONE The saxophone is a woodwind instrument made of brass. Noise is made using a single reed and mouthpiece. Alto saxophones are smaller and higher in pitch, while tenor saxophones are larger and smaller in pitch. TRUMPET The trumpet is a brass instrument. Sound is made by buzzing your lips into the mouthpiece. A trumpet has 3 valves. FRENCH HORN The french horn is a brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a coil. The french horn is also known as the horn. TROMBONE The trombone is brass instrument with a long slide. Sound is made by buzzing your lips into the mouthpiece. BARITONE The baritone is a low-brass instrument with 3 valves. Sound can be made by buzzing your lips into the mouthpiece. The baritone is also called the euphonium. PERCUSSION Percussion is the music group that includes many types of drums and bells.
