For more information, please contact [email protected], [email protected]. /3AU) The University rfDayton News Release NOVAK LECTURE DAYTON, Ohio, August 30, 1985 -- The Marianists and the School of Business Administration at the University of Dayton will sponsor a public lecture featuring Michael Novak on Tuesday, September 10 at 8 p.m. The topic of the lecture will be "Toward the Future: Catholic Social Teaching and the U.S. Economy." His appearance is the first of two dealing with the relationship between economics and social justice. As well as his very active academic careers at Harvard and Stanford, Novak has been involved in politics and especially human rights and anti-war activities. He campaigned for Senators Robert Kennedy and Henry Jackson and wrote speeches for Edmund Muskie, Sargent Shriver, and George McGovern. As founder of the Ethnic Millions Action Committee, he campaigned for the creation of the White House Office of Ethnic Affairs. In 1981 and 1982 he was appointed by President Reagan as the Chief of the United States Delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva. As an author he has written two novels and nearly twenty books in the areas of philosophy, theology, and culture. "Illusions and Realities" was a twice weekly nationally syndicated column that Novak wrote from 1976 to 1980. In March 1984 he syndicated a new column, "Religion and Politics." Novak's lecture on September 10 is free and open to the public. -30- NOTE: Michael Novak will be available for interviews with members of the press.
