The Army Reserve and the Army National Guard Soldiers need training opportunities. As part of Total Force Policy, those two goals are combined into partnership training opportunities that build Soldier and unit readiness. JMC is leveraging the Army's Total Force Policy with a partnership that builds Army readiness while achieving JMCs strategic objectives. "Currently JMC is reforming the way we do business, to better support the Chief of Staff of the Army's priorities and meet the Combatant Command requirements. Part of that is making sure the right items are in the right location, whether for storage, maintenance or demilitarization. Since we are able to offer some of this job to the Reserve Component, they get to use this opportunity to hone skills and train collectively on what they would do while deployed," said Sgt. Maj. Shontina Edwards, JMC Operations Sergeant Major. JMC has many opportunities for unit training. The command provides their opportunities to Army Materiel Command's Reserve Component Mission Support Office, which reaches out at all levels of command in the USAR and ARNG to source the missions with units. The AMC Reserve Component Mission Support Office attends the USAR and ARNG training synchronization forums for units to sign up for AMC missions. Gus Perna, commanding general, U.S. Army Materiel Command, visited the headquarters of U.S. Army Sustainment Command for a quarterly update, here, May 29. One of several topics was ASC's reform of contract management procedures aimed at increasing contractor accountability. Perna said it is important for the Army to better understand the performance outputs of contracts as they relate to costs. "It's not just about red, green, and amber," he said while encouraging ASC leadership to look deeper into the metrics associated with each contracted requirement. "Are we achieving what we actually want to see?" Maj. Gen. Duane Gamble, commanding general, ASC, said he is also not interested in buying "readiness for increased costs." (More: www.army.mil/article/222638) AMC Commander Confirms Path Forward For JMC On May 29, the Joint Munitions Command conducted its quarterly review with the Army Materiel Command Commanding General, Gen. Gustave "Gus" Perna. During these quarterly meetings, Perna reviews the accomplishments and initiatives of JMC, which is one of 10 major subordinate commands of AMC. These sessions "validate understanding of my intent and how you're executing to my intent," said Perna. The Commanding General of JMC, Brig. Gen. Michelle M.T. Letcher, led the brief and focused on how JMC is operationalizing AMC initiatives. Key topics of the meeting included the JMC 2019-2020 Campaign Plan and the Operational Business Review. -- Campaign Plan -- While the last quarterly update primarily focused on Soldiers and People, this quarterly update The contents of the Island Insight are not necessarily the official views of, or endorsed by, the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense, or the Department of the Army. He is reminded every day. His office sits next to the point of impact where American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon nearly 18 years ago during the 9/11 attacks. "It's a constant daily reminder that the Pentagon, (which) is the Department of Defense's foremost installation, clearly can be … under a surprise attack," said Beehler. As the variety and complexity of threats continue to increase, security at U.S. military installations has taken increased importance in the years since 9/11. Potential U.S. adversaries can threaten American bases in cyberspace and at their perimeters.
