But the goal from year to year and coach to coach remains the same - win the Region 18 Tournament, make the trip to Hutchinson, Kan., for nationals and win a NJCAA National Cham- pionship. This year’s fans will be treated to a relentless style of play. New head coach Jeremy Cox accepts nothing less than an all out effort all the time. Cox was named head coach this summer and brings with him a wealth of experience at all levels of basketball. He brought in new assistant Brock Morris and they join returning assistant Colby Blaine. The team is a combination of old and new as well. There are four returning players to lead the Eagles - Montigo Alford, James Reid, Detwon Rogers and Kennedy Esume. They are joined by 12 newcomers. “I think we have a very complete team,” Cox said. “We have very good guard play and good athleticism. One strength of our team is that we can really shoot the ball.” Alford and Reid, both starters from last year, will be key at the guard position. They will be joined by Trevor Bamgartner (USU-Eastern transfer), Dallas Anglin (Hofstra University transfer), Osamudiamen Igodan (fresh- man from Boise), Jamal McDowell (freshman from Chicago) and Fredrick Edmond (freshman from Lansing, Mich.) “Our guardline gives us a lot of speed and quickness as well as great shooters,” Cox said. At the forward position, Detwon Rogers is the only returner but not the only one with experience. Clifton Harrell will be a huge asset. Harrell is a transfer from Imperial Valley College. Freshmen Forwards include Cul- len Russo (Minnesota), Brant Mecham (Utah) and Shaquille Jones (Rhode Island). 4 2013-14 Outlook In the post, Cox will look to Esume as the only returner but he also will have sophomore transfers Charles Jackson (Lassen CC) once he recovers from an off-season leg injury, and Dorian Cason (University of Port- land). They will be joined by freshman Darnell Tillman (Missouri). “Besides our ability to shoot the ball as a team, we will have balance - inside and out,” Cox said. “We’ve got to get healthy. At this point, with the injuries, I still think our inside game needs to improve but it should as we get healthy.” Having numbers will be key in the type of game Cox likes to run. “We will be a pressure team. We want to be a pressure man to man team. Offensively, we want to put pres- sure on the rim and the lane. We want to play around 85 possessions
