Lewis, Staff Liaison 1.0 Call to Order 2.0 Welcome and Introductions 3.0 Approval of Spring 2012 Meeting Minutes The minutes from the spring 2012 meeting in Dallas are attached as Exhibit A. 4.0 Approval of Agenda, Additions, Deletions 5.0 International Lunch 5.1 Fall 2012 – Toronto, ON (Sunday, October 21, 2012, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm) ~ Forming Our Future Professor Michel Virlogeux will give a presentation on Modern Trends in Bridge Design in Europe during the International Lunch in Toronto. Currently there are 77 people registered for the lunch. It is expected that this number will increase. 5.2 Spring 2013 – Minneapolis, MN (Sunday, April 14, 2013) ~ Responsibility in Concrete Construction Peter Richner, President of RILEM, has been confirmed as the speaker for the International Lunch during the Spring 2013 Convention. 5.3 Fall 2013 – Phoenix, AZ (Sunday, October 20, 2013) ~ Innovation in Conservation Cesar Constantino planned to contact the former Chief Engineer of Construction and now head of Administration for the Panama Canal to make a presentation on the Panama Canal Expansion. He will provide an update. 5.4 Spring 2014 – Reno, NV (Sunday, March 23, 2014) Chair Carrasquillo was requesting Marwan Daye identify topics and potential speakers for the lunch to be held at the spring 2014 convention. 1 5.5 Fall 2014 – Washington DC (Sunday, October 26, 2014) H.S. Lew has volunteered to identify ideas and a speaker for the International luncheon. For future lunches the following committee members will identify speakers: Robert Lewis indicated that he may be able to obtain a speaker to talk about infrastructure in the UK. Cesar Constantino will identify a speaker from Egypt. Ramon Carrasquillo will to try to obtain a speaker from Morocco. 6.0 International Sessions 6.1 Fall 2013 The next International Workshop for Structural Concrete in the Americas and Beyond will be held prior to the Fall 2013 Convention in Phoenix, AZ. It was thought this would be a good location to hold sessions, but the committee preferred that one two‐hour session from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. be held. The convention theme is Innovation in Conservation. Sessions around the theme “uses of concrete as a means to conserve resources” will be developed. A possible session title may be Concrete Construction: Conservation Management of Resources. Dr. Cesar Constantino is coordinating these sessions and will provide an update. 7.0 International Conferences 7.1 ACI Co‐sponsored Conferences An international conference is planned for 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic. This conference is a successor to the CANMET‐ACI conference. Mohan Malhotra has historically coordinated these conferences and would like ACI and the International Conferences/Conventions Committee to take over this effort. If the committee wished to consider this proposal, a financial impact statement could be developed and request approval from the International Advisory Committee and Board of Direction. Mohan Malhotra is putting together a transition plan which will be forwarded to the committee. Lew, USA GUESTS John Glumb Gajanan Sabnis 1.0 Call to Order Chair Carrasquillo called the meeting to order at 7:32 a.m. 2.0 Welcome and Introductions 3.0 Approval of Fall 2011 Meeting Minutes The minutes from the fall 2011 meeting in Cincinnati were approved as distributed and are attached as Exhibit A. 4.0 Approval of Agenda/Additions, Deletions There were no additions or changes to the agenda. 5.0 Review of Committee Membership Chair Carrasquillo previously requested committee members to identify individuals who may be good additions to the committee. Cesar Constantino will talk with Augusto Holmberg about his participation in the committee. H.S. Lew will provide the names of three possible members from China, Korea and Japan within the next few months. 6.0 International Lunch 6.1 Spring 2012 – Dallas, TX (Sunday, March 18, 2012, 12 pm – 2 pm) ~ Art of Concrete Mario Chiorino gave an excellent presentation entitled, The Art and Science of Concrete, which focused on the Pier Luigi Nervi Exhibition that will be touring the United States. A description of the presentation is shown as Exhibit B. Mario wished to thank ACI and specifically Rex Donahey, Editor‐in‐Chief of Concrete 1 International, for dedicating the March issue to the exhibition. Additionally he thanked the PLN Foundation in Europe for their support. The room was filled to capacity with about 90 in attendance. In the future a larger room with two screens is needed. The committee determined that they would like to continue creating and distributing a one page flyer. Additionally they would like to send an e‐mail blast further in advance so that attendees can make their flight arrangements accordingly. Also they would like to identify ACI committees that might be interested in the topic and send them an invitation to attend. 6.2 Fall 2012 – Toronto, ON (Sunday, October 21, 2012, 12 pm – 2 pm) ~ Forming Our Future Professor Michel Virlogeux has been invited to be the speaker at the International Lunch in Toronto. He will give a presentation Modern Trends in Bridge Design in Europe. He is the foremost designer of bridges and in Europe. His most famous work was the Normandy Bridge. Staff will contact his assistant to reconfirm he will be attending. A copy of the invitation letter is attached as Exhibit C. 6.3 Spring 2013 – Minneapolis, MN (Sunday, April 14, 2013) ~ Responsibility in Concrete Construction President Ken Hover suggested Peter Richner, President of RILEM, as the for the International Lunch during the Spring 2013 Convention.
